Before all the bassists pull a Flea and start running around in their underwear or diaper or whatever it is they run around in … I want to point out that this is nothing more than sensationalized fake news.

If you read the article, all they did was wrap some science around the obvious (something to the effect that people’s brains respond to pitch with high notes and rhythm with low notes).  Right about now I would share some commentary about the waste of tax dollars but I see the studies were funded by the Canadians so I will leave well enough alone.

I will point out that a bass guitar was not used in the study (I will have to read it again but I don’t even think they specifically mention bass guitar … but just generically, bass instruments).  The study was done with tones generated on a piano.

Depiction of the two EEG experimental conditions. In the two-voice deviant condition, standards (80% presentation rate) consisted of simultaneous high- and low-pitched piano tones [fundamental frequencies of 196 Hz (G3) and 466.2 Hz (B-flat4)];

That probably wouldn't go over well playing in a worship band.  Then again, its probably never been done....may be a hit.

I've played guitar for over 30 years and Bass for the last 15.  I can tell you this, a good drummer and a good bass player, in sync, really hold a rhythm section together.

I think you may be right.
And besides, everyone already knows that the drummer is the most important member in the band!
