When I switched from being a guitarist to a bassist in bands, i noticed a huge power shift.  
I assume it's because nobody paid attention to my bass playing, but shifted to fit my phrasing subconsciously.  Had I mentioned what I was doing, I'm sure they would have been upset.  
 
This study cost NO tax dollars, but a few real Canadian ones, and made none.

Even if you don't need a conga player and you don't have a van but he does, he's in like Flynn.

The absolute position of power is: bass player with great bass rig, killer P/A, 7 mics and stands, new van, no wife and no kids.
