And not to get poly tickle but what a lot of people (millennials and younger) don't remember (or know) is that in Lincoln's day the (R) and (D) platforms were essentially the opposite of what they are today.
 
So it could be said that when a (R) espouses Lincoln (and his party's platform) they are essentially espousing the (D) platform of today.
