I was looking for a good price on an upgrade from Melodyne Essential (included with Sonar X3) to Melodyne Editor (the version that allows you to pitch-edit polyphonic material). I missed the thirty day window in which you may upgrade for $199 and was looking at a $399 dollar upgrade fee.

Sweetwater is offering this upgrade until May 31st for $125! I usually purchase from Musician's Friend, so I called and they matched the price. Probably will work the same for any major music retailer.

Enjoy!

Funny! Celemony has sent me two ads this month reminding me of the upgrade sale from them at $149... I wish I could afford the Sweetwater price....

Musician's Friend use to price match with 150% of the difference. First by matching the competitor's price and providing 50% of the difference as a credit against future purchases. I would press them for the e-credit. Could not find it on their website but they do still claim to beat (not just meet) all competitors.

Anyone remotely thinking about Melodyne Editor should jump on this.  It's well worth the full price...let alone this offer.

I was surprised they matched it. It was listed on the Musician's Friend website for $250. They had to get manager approval being that the $125 price was below _thier_ cost! Wow, so they lose money on the sale _and_ (if I pushed for it) they would have to give me $62 in store credit.

I'm happy with the deal I got. Plus I don't have to endure those annoying SweetWater "Sales Engineer" cold calls.

Getting a manager involved was a nice bit of theater. They are obligated by their written policy not only to match the price but beat it. I don't get too concerned about what a salesman calls "their cost". I seriously doubt anyone on a sales desk in such a large company really knows their real cost, that is usually the purview of the accountants in the back office. But it is a nice story. Even if they lose money on this sale, they will make it up many times over on others. Probably even with the e-credit because it cannot be used on another price match. I have benefited from the 150% match before which is why I mentioned it. I don't mind pressing vendors for their best deal. They established the "we beat any price" policy, let the other guy pay what the vendor asks.
