Petty annoyance: When I start X2, or minimize then maximize it, all FX windows -- which I normally keep minimized if the setting are OK -- all return to their original size and position, covering the console and track views.
 
I cannot immediately find a configuration control to stop this. Any hints?

This is a windows thing which SONAR does not control. I do not leave plug-in UIs open. If you must keep plug-in UIs open dock them.

Right, I do not keep a plugin open once it is setup unless it is something I want to view (Span for example). But then I don't minimize it either.
