I've transferred projects from Pro Tools to Sonar and also from Sonar projects into a fresh Sonar project, and there really isn't any quick way of doing it. You just have to roll up your sleeves and buckle-to.

In the end though, I think it's an easier process than you think it's going to be. I've transferred large MIDI projects which involved recreating synths and large FX chains from scratch. Sometimes you just have to get a pen and paper and make notes. But you can save synth/FX settings as presets - it's always good to save all of your presets in the project folder as you work anyway.

As for audio and MIDI clips I just take each track in turn. Bounce all the clips of one track into a single clip and make sure to extend the start of the clip all the way to the beginning so that you can position it easily in the new project.

I've actually enjoyed doing it. It's nice to recreate a project like this and feel like you're making a fresh start. It also forces you to look at the old project in great detail, which may lead to a bit of "spring cleaning" in the process.

I've taking crashed projects out of PT (yep, it happens in PT to) and rebuilt them in x3.
Psst!! This is actually the preferred method for MIDI intensive PT projects because X3 is so much faster and easier to work in for MIDI (whispers quietly)

Tell me about it! The main reason why I bought Sonar was because I just couldn't get anything done in Pro Tools because of endless crashes related to MIDI and VSTi's. I was even at the point where I had to host my VSTi's in Reaper and ReWire it into ProTools before I said enough is enough and simply went out and bought a better DAW.

I have transferred live tracks from Pro Tools on a Mac to Sonar -- like, 20 tracks. This involved copying the files to a portable drive (I found out Macs can't talk to NTFS formatted drives), bringing them to the home studio and importing into Sonar. And I've transferred six or eight tracks from Sonar to Sony Vegas for scoring. I didn't use Broadcast wav files in any of these moves, and everything synced up every time. You just have to make sure you transfer the entire track and then import it to zero on your timeline.

What would be the advantage of Broadcast wav?

In a whispering voice: Pro tools, Logic, Cubase, Garage band, Ableton, FL Studio, Reason, Traction, Nuendo, Digital performer, Presonus one & Reaper (I think). These are the ones I know about.

I'm sure there are others that I do not know about.
