Rather than its ability to mimic another device, wouldn't the best test for an amp sim be a) its versatility and b) the ease with which a desired tone can be obtained?

Much ink has been devoted to the debate over whether all equalizers are interchangeable, because any given spectral profile may be obtained with pretty much any properly-designed EQ. And that's mostly true, yet we all have our individual EQ preferences. It comes down to ergonomics.

Right, Bit, ol pal.  These things are just tools and folks should use the one that gets the job done best for them.  What I think this demonstrates once again is the parity that has been achieved between software and hardware in certain instances.  But an ol feller or gal should use whatever they like to make whatever noises and caterwhaulin they prefer to foist on the rest of us.

My thoughts exactly. FWIW, I can achieve similar tone with just ProChannel modules.

Those Kemper amps look nice. I could model just about all the classic amps from my circle of friends, but I just can't pull the trigger because of my Line 6 experiences.

FWIW, The Kemper was the first device that convinced me I could play (and enjoy) guitar without a tube amp.
It's nothing like the Line-6 products of the past.
With access to many prized tube-amps, you're in the perfect situation to take full advantage of the Kemper.

That Kemper is a funny looking amp. Looks like something "The Jetsons" would use.
Thanks for posting. Very interesting. Would love to try one.

The Kemper does look weird... but using it is actually very simple.
There's a dedicated knob/button for all important features.

Like Jim says, the Kemp is easy peasy.  Very intuitive and sounds killer diller.  Your only real problem with the Kemp is trying to pick out the perfect amp/pedal combo from the hundreds on board.

I'm a little late to this thread , anyway a couple of things ,
The examples all sounded the pretty much the same ...which I thought was kinda the whole point .....
As far as the tone / genre of playing ..it would not have made any difference to me ..
That's that fellas thing ,  it's just not my thing ... I can respect that , he is putting it out there to inform folks ...
I was able to get a good enough idea of what was going on ...

Amp wise , I go back to the days when Dinosaurs didn't have much access to electricity .When they wanted to use an amp it was a two Dino operation . One would set up the amp between two mountains to get a good natural delay , the other would hop on a stationary bike and pedal at a bpm of 110 to create a uniform voltage for the generator to send out to the amp . Then they would just take turns laying down guitar parts in the studio

Sure I may be joking  around w that , yet if you go back 15 to 20 years and compare the current technology of the amp modelers featured in that u tube video to what was available back then for guitar players and studio owners ...
The demo of what was in the video would have came off just like pure science fiction to a guitar player back then ...

Times sure have changed , if you don't believe me ...go back and watch an episode of The Jetsons ...
That little dog walker thing that Astro used to get a walk in back then is now in just about every commercial gym and home all over the world

I like the Kemper , if I had the bread that would be the one I would get

That whole thing of too many choices is part of why I went back to using a real amp after using the Axe-FX for a few years.  The limitations are kind of freeing in some ways.
