Unfortunately these have the same problems as their software equivalents, as it's nearly impossible to generate appropriate wheel events from pitch variances such as slides, bends and vibrato. They'd probably really fall down trying to track a fretless bass.

But while disappointing for recording purposes they'd probably still be very cool for real-time applications such as playing a synth bass on stage. You'd just have to play very straight with minimal embellishments. If I was a bass player in a band I'd definitely have one, plus some kind of compact hardware synth such as a Moog Little Phatty.

Bitt, do you remember Peaveys Midi Bass? I think from the 90s or maybe later? probably didnt track well with the technology of that time. I think Roland also had a hex pickup for bass guitar, also.

A slightly different approach that I've used successfully in the past is to sing the notes.  Then use Melodyne to convert to midi.  I'm a far more facile singer than I am bass player!!

I do the same but with whistling. I have a cheap Logitech USB mic which is always plugged in and handy and ideal for capturing whistled notes. I can whistle pretty well - my baroque trills are better than I can play on guitar!

If the OP is proficient at playing bass, I'd just record the real bass.
If there's an issue with not achieving the desired sound from the bass, I would address that issue.
IMO, That's going to be far more productive use of time/resources than audio>MIDI.

Can someone tell me if it possible for me to use the bass sounds in Kontakt to add just playing a regular bass?  I have a keyboard, but I would rather actually just play my bass but get the same effect?

OP needs to clarify exactly what it is he's trying to do. I've interpreted the question a few different ways:

- He wants to use Kontakt to add a regular bass... Since he says he plays the bass guitar, the implication is he's referring to a different kind of bass.  "Regular" could imply an acoustic (standup) bass.

- If he actually meant "Komplete" instead of "Kontakt", he could be referring to a Rickenbacker, or model of bass different from his own.

- The "regular bass" he's referring to could be his own, but then the question remains:  What "same effect" is he trying to achieve? (Same as what?).
