Hello good people,

Can anyone out there help me? I'm new to the world of MIDI and even newer to Sonar and EastWest. What I'm trying to do is get sonar x3 to change from 1 channel to another within the EastWest's Play mixing channels. Furthermore, How do I get Sonar to change the articulation without and external keyboard?

If anyone has some wisdom on these matters I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,
       Gus

To change the articulation you need to identify which keyboard notes represent the different artics and to program them into the prv, just like a regular note.

All artic notes are designed so they don't overlap the playing range of the instrument in question, so you'll find the artics for basses at the top of the scale, whilst for piccolo's you'll find them at the bottom.

I have all of my artics routed via their own dedicated drum map. This makes it easy to identify & edit notes entirely separately from articulations

Hi thanks,
I've tried that. And these notes are being ignored.
What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure you are adding notes to the correct "note" in the PRV? Many soft-synth docs reference notes starting at C1, while Sonar starts at C0 (I think, I'm not at my DAW, so it may be the other way around). You can usually test articulations in the instrument's interface. They are usually shown as different colored keys in the onscreen keyboard in the VST itself. Click the articulation, then the next note you play will be using that articulation. Some are single note articulations while others are permanent until another articulation is selected.

Dan

Do you have a controller keyboard hooked up?

If so, are the keys being visibly triggered when you press the relevant key?

Are you actually loading a keyswitched instrument into Play? Not all of the instruments support KS.

What version of Play are you on?

Gus,

If you've already recorded some MIDI data and want to change articulations within the track, then adding 'control' notes in the PRV is one way to go, as described above.

However, you might try the method described here instead (the relevant part of the post starts at #14):

For real-time composing/recording, I use the method described here (make sure to check out the two excellent YouTube videos):

Hope this helps,

BTW, you should post X3-related issues in the "SONAR X Series" forum -- this one is for Sonar versions prior to X1.

Hello again Dan,
Yeah the control notes are from C0 and are a different colour, if I click them with the cursor I can change the articulation.
