Is this due to too many softsynths being used or is this a common problem, any suggesions

No crashes here with X3e Producer.

After fully composing, tracking and mixing a complete project, I've had one crash using X3e, and I blame PerfectSpace (64bit anytime Cakewalk?). I also had two issues pop up, but neither were showstoppers. So far, I'm pretty happy I skipped installing X2...

Yes, I've had more crashes and more audio dropouts after the x3e update. Nothing else changed on my system. IMO x3e is less stable.

Yes I don't understand why my screen freezes when playing back a project its happened three times now following the X3e update I had no problems before this. I inserted one more soft synth to a project running 4 soft synth tracks and one midi track then the problem of screen freezing started. The. Cpu usage isn't high at all so iam in limbo here!

Don't know. If it were common, one would expect more posts about the subject. There might be an answer other than the two suggested in this post. The only suggestion I will offer is supply more details.

A 'me, too' post - I have encountered no crashes in X3e. I don't recall having many in X3d or earlier versions, though.

It's impossible to answer your question without knowing your system specs.  It could be bad hardware or conflicting software, but it's hard to tell without more info from you.

I'm currently using X3e with 30+ EWQL orchestral softsynths and a few effects plugins on a three year old i7 950 Windows 7 x64 Pro system with no crashes whatsoever.  I even use the system for non audio purposes though I am very careful about what I install and frequently use programs like Autoruns to see what's lurking inside.  After booting, Taskmgr consistently reports about 24-26 processes running.  I think keeping your system lean this way really helps you achieve stability.
