  • Any Way To Have Keyboard ALWAYS Take Control Of All VST Plugins?

Hello,

I was wondering, is there a way to have every plug in capture all strokes of the keyboard without having to hit the little keyboard icon in the upper-right of the plugin window?   It gets very annoying when I am trying to save a patch, type in a name for it and then all the sudden I end up doing things I don't want to do inside Sonar.

Thank You!

A QWERTY Keyboard or a Keyboard with MIDI?

...wicked
I don't think so, but maybe someone knows of an ini tweak or some such.

I feel your pain, if you don't realize it and start typing into a text box all sorts of things happen in SONAR!

But if it ALWAYS assigned your keyboard to the VSTs, then you'd have to click on something else to terminate keyboard control to your VSTs. So you'd still end up having to choose one or the other.

I suppose the closest to what you want would be a universal command that toggled between "assign keystrokes to any VST that's open" and "don't assign keystrokes to any VSTs." You'd still have to remember to hit it each time you wanted to change, though.

But I would never have the VST open unless I'm currently doing something in it.   I ended up hitting "E" and disabling my Prochannel today because of this terrible design.

So basically, you want Sonar to sense when a VST GUI is open, and if it's open, then all keystrokes go to the VST? And if no VST GUI is open, then the keystrokes work normally?

(BTW "E" doesn't disable the ProChannel, it just bypasses all effects. If you type "E" again, all the effects come back.)

Yes, that is EXACTLY what I want to do.  Basically, I just want the keystroke button to be automatically enabled when I open a VST instead of disabled.

Hmmm...I dunno...it might be inconvenient to have to close a VST effect every time I wanted to use the keyboard. Seems most effects take the focus for adjusting parameters, it's just saving preset names and such when you want to use the keyboard. Right?

I guess it is personal preference.   But yes, it is when I have to type, I keep forgetting to hit that switch.  I can't see why you would need to use a keyboard in Sonar while a VST is open.  It should work like any other app, main window in focus gets the attention.
