The issues are explained and pretty much everyone has seen it and understands them now. I really liked how Danny posted the video of what he was talking about. Only patches can change these though...

D K has a valid point, which depresses me as well... people using social media to rally an army to their cause when it left the chute in an antagonistic manner tends to attract people like starving wolves to the last hot dog on earth. Eventually, people start throwing rocks... and this just distracts from the valid points that were made :(

I just really REALLY wish the guys that have the power to say "this is what we'll put into the next version" would stop removing things from us. In place of removing, give us additional options to use the DAW the way WE want instead of how THEY want us to use it.

Danny I really think that the majority of the changes that most of the "workers" that use Sonar for a business find "out of whack" had to do with the change to the GUI "Skylight." Looking back on it I believe it was an attempt by CW to lay the foundation for things to come.

When Sonar came out I didn't get it because it was just to different than PA. And I had just learned it and I wasn't going to learn this all over again. Then I got Sonar 5. And I liked it. Realized I had missed the boat on the Sonar thing and said lesson learned.

So when X1 came out, I said to myself, I'm throwing all the old stuff away and starting this anew. It's taken a while but I am just now getting use to the X series.

Example, I have two monitors on my music pc. But on the home pc (which I have X2 & 3 on) I only have one screen. Never thought I would be happy with one screen, but with the new Skylight interface, and forcing myself to use it, I can see getting one big monitor in the future. Touch screen? I don't know about that! But I am open.

Now after saying all this, just know that if I had to do this for my job to get paid to make the house note, food, bills, I would have stayed with 8.5.3 as the main workhorse.

Back OT: Why won't the TV scroll to the last trk on top because of fractional scrolling? I'm not getting that. Is this a limitation of fractional scrolling?

Having worked in editor development, and having had the gall to explain to executive secretaries that mice were really better than their keyboard shortcuts, I know that the worst thing you can do to someone is change a part of the UI that they use heavily.  It doesn't matter if you or a thousand people think the new way is better - it isn't for the user.

The usual way to handle this situation is to *maintain* a certain number of prior versions for a reasonable number of years.  The patches I believe mettelus is talking about.  Microsoft still regularly updates XP.  Cakewalk stopped maintaining X2 a month after its release.

M$ actually stops support for XP in 5 months time. Unfortunately maintaining previous versions is becoming less the norm nowadays as doing this is expensive on low profit margins. Adobe for instance have changed over to a subscription system. I wouldn't expect support for a software product after two years myself (except for an OS). I agree X2 should have had more patches however X3 has made up for that. Just blame Roland on X2 and move on...

This thread certainly has run the gamut, from "move on to PT" to "we pay for upgrades, not downgrades!!!".

Bring on X3c, and d, and..

Yes it has, Hopefully the new updates will actually be upgrades and not downgrades. This taking 1 step forward and 2 steps backwards is not how you upgrade programs.

X3e   As expected this lost feature is still so.

Another work-a-round:  add a blank track to the bottom and adjust.
