+1 on the videos being sold at the Cakewalk store
I picked up 2 this week …the Rapture and Dim Pro ..together they both ran me $9.99…
that was a score in my book and I want to get deeper w both synths

I've been eying a couple of Craig's older video's ..they also seem to be on sale ...

It's an old one, but that tutorial on Rapture mentioned above is really helpful. Lots of knobs on that thing. I found this $5 video helpful. There are many cool synths out there, but I still chortle when I pick a good Rapture preset. It's neat to have some clues as to how the sound can be adjusted. That video gave me some info that I would never have been able to decipher by just twiddling the knobs.

And + 1 or more for Dan making some fresh Sonar tutorials.

Like others have mentioned above, I take in several Groove 3 video sections daily. Always learning and getting better at this especially due to their excellent tutorials.

I'm surprised that no one here mentioned Pensados Place (ITL). Almost 100 videos that cover mixing tips and tricks "all free today".... lol ;)

My #1 rule is GOOD listing skills... The rest can be tweaked in the box. ;)

peace!

I watch Pensado's Place. Lots of tips and the interviews are enjoyable, too!

jkoseattleI don't want to learn! I want to KNOW!

This reminds me of a writer I know who once said: I don't want to write; I want to have written!

I just purchased most of the ones that they have on the cake site that I didn't already have. What a steal. As mentioned earlier, some of them were only $5! I'm going to take the long weekend and just soak it all in (We have Monday off as Patriot's day here in Boston). Watching these videos over and over is really starting to replace my regular television viewing...Except for Game Of Thrones anyway...
I just saw the new Cake CA-2A video last night...I had no idea that you could change it to a faster compressor with that tiny little hidden photo cell button.  More pure gold!
About 6 months ago I checked out the youtube video titled. "How To Master A Song In 7 steps". Pretty good free info (not that I have any real mastering training), enough so that I bit on the full course. It's good food for thought anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0FpX200S1s

Well said bandso! The Groove3 vids are excellent. I already own the X1 stuff and a couple of others but when I upgraded to X3 I did the $15 all access pass and went through a stack of tutorials in my lunch breaks at work. There are a few more I want to go through so I'm about to sign up for another month very soon.

This is sort of a post to some of the new users that have come to our little community as of late.

For the past decade or so I've had a bad case of gear lust. I've bought entire effects suites from Nomad, Slate, Izotope, IK, (some) Waves, and from anywhere else that I could find; chasing that elusive perfect mix. I just knew that the next plugin would be the magic pill that would put my mixes into the next level. Well I've finally come to realize..I have 15 compressors, 5 tape sims, too many EQ's, and my mixes have stayed more or less the same, minor improvements, but alas the same. Major head scratching was going on for quite some time considering the amount of $ I'd spent.
Then I stumbled into the world of instructional videos. It seemes that I had fantastic tools right in front of me all of the time but I really didn't know how to use them properly. I had an idea, but not real training. Even stock plugins can be made to shine once you really get a handle on how, why, and where they are supposed to be set. Plain and simple, I was ignorant and didn't even know what was out there to be learned let alone how to learn it. I'm still and will always be a student of audio engineering, but once you have a teacher show you what can be learned then your eyes and ears are opened and a whole new way of mixing is opened up to you.

So..why did I post this bit of soul searching. Well... I just finished watching Sonar tips and tricks from groove3.com and I'm just totally blown away. All of the Sonar related groove3 videos, the ones in the cake store, youtube, and others have helped me grow way more than any $500 effect bundle ever did. Plus for the most part they are dirt cheap compared to a new mic, plugin, or interface.
If you are looking to spend a little cash to invest in your studio, invest in yourself. Get these videos so you can at least see all that your powerful DAW has to offer. Feed your head, FEED IT!

I am a new user (75 days or so) .  A few weeks ago I started watching the Groove 3 Tutorials.  Meanwhile I was overtaken by events.  Your post reminds me how very useful the tips and tutorials are. I shall once again pursure  my quest to learn the stuff "reelgud"!!  Thanks

I've watched piles of videos. I love them while I'm watching, but they make pretty terrible reference material. Scott's Sonar Power books continue to serve long after the first read. I don't go back to the videos all that often. Maybe if the videos came with a searchable compendium of info so we could easily find sections of interest it would be better. I often remember seeing something cool that would help me. Say... Wasn't the Craig Anderton who showed how to use Audio Snap to split a drum section into clips and then nudge them into a random order with snap on to get some crazy fill? Where was that? What video was that in? duh... :-)

I've gotten Scott Garrigus' Sonar Power books since I got Sonar 3 (when was that?! LOL). I read it through and keep it handy to refer to it, but I still find seeing someone use this that or whatever, triggers other parts of my learning. A healthy dose of both covers it for me, and I think I have purchased a dozen of the videos from the Cakewalk store (X1, X2 and X3 plus Craig's, plus various softsynths). Whenever I get a little lost, I go watch one. The best part is learning stuff I wasn't "looking for".
