@ gswitz... I'm not that much of a fan of Scott's, books but we all have our preferred learning styles.
May I suggest the concept of making a chronological text doc. That helps you reference and locate, or as you put it (searchable compendium).
I have a word doc for every video I own and it grow and changes every time I watch a video.
This might sound like a lot of work but it not. I just list enter time, subject and short notes if required.

Thanks Geoff (gswitz) and Michael (pentimentosound)! I appreciate the support very much.

By the way, I'll be launching my own video channel (and various series titles) later this year.
Keep an eye on my main web site: http://www.garrigus.com/

+1 for Bent's suggestion. I too have a word document that I list all the tips and tricks and the time in the video they appear. Watching someone seems to trigger a better memory response in me than reading. I did enjoy Scott's book (I have X1), it is very well written and logically thought through.

 Hey Scott

I've been signed up for your digifreg newsletter since I got Sonar 7 Power but I only very rarely see an issue come through my email. How often do you release them?

Cheers

Hey Mark... it's supposed to be monthly, but unfortunately, I usually don't have enough time to do it that often. I'll be sending out a new issue soon, but in the meantime, you can access back issues at:
http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/issues.asp

And I do update the main site often: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/
And there's usually new messages on the forums daily: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/discuss/

Thanks!

I got Sonar Power too and it is great for quick references. What a great detailed guide. After watching all the mixing videos and the workshop videos I wanted to try some of the things in the videos. Most of my music is instrumental. I wanted some sample projects by good artist to mix so I could learn and experiment.

That is when I found the Cambridge Library. Just preview a song clip and download something to work with. The beauty of this is that it got me away from my style of writing and I got to experiment with all kinds of situations I would not normally encounter doing my own music. here is a link.

This is a great resource for mixing information too. I found this to be just as valuable as the videos. it gave me experience and allowed me to experiment. It cost nothing at all to download a song to practice your mixing abilities. There is music in just about every style to mix. Just expand the compressed file and import inside of Sonar. I was able to try a lot of the tricks I learned in those videos on this music.

I really enjoyed and recommend the Groove 3 class on orchestration.  They use Logic but you can use the same idea to build a really solid orchestration template with SONAR.  Dim Pro has the included samples and midi controls to do basic switching  between long and short bow strings and smooth and percussive woodwinds.  I've had so much fun with it I bought a sample engine/library (Doh!).
