This sub-forum is designed to help newbies get up and running with SONAR. Discussion will focus on initial setup, configuration, and basic operation.

Please be kind.

And many thanks to all of you who lend your hard-earned and invaluable knowledge and expertise.

Indeed it is.

Okay well we have at least one positive vote.

Make that (at least) two positive votes! Great idea to focus getting started threads in their own subforum, as those sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Now you'll just have to figure out how to keep all of the "I'm new to SONAR, and I want to know when you'll have a Mac version" and "I'm new to SONAR and I want to know when you'll be implementing VST3 support" threads out of the high visibility Getting Started subforum.

Any chance you will have a "Get unstuck" sub-forum for troubleshooting?  Or how about a "Get deep" for the intermediate users?  Huh, I got another one..."Get it done" for the more experienced?  How's this for a title, "Bring it all together" for mastering help.  For mixing we could go with "Mixing a Masterpiece"... Nah, too pretentious, maybe "Level the Playing Field".  Oh, and for integrating  hardware, "Connect the Dots."   Well it's a work in progress...there's another one.

Kind regards,

Hi guys!

I'm a newcomer at this site and I need some help from you people regarding SONAR 3. I use this program as an amateur since quiet a time, however I recently experienced some incident that I really need some help with.

First of all I realized that my recently the tracks - which I recorded earlier on my computer - aren't in the same time anymore. I realized it first when I sent some of my ".cwp" files to a friend who has  exactly the same SONAR and still it's out of time. Like it would have been slided or something... Then the same things happened with me on my computer, too.

Now, I thought it could have happened because I changed my computer but it's just doesn't add up logically. I made some records which are perfectly in time since ever (and I made them a long time ago). They are fine on my computer but at my friend it's out of time.

Then there are some new records which were in time on my old computer but not anymore on my new... How is it possible? What do I do wrong???

The other thing I don't get is with MIDI. I recently started type melodies in MIDI through staff view and from time to time it happens that it some of the notes are either not sound at all or sound totally differently and strange. I tried everything with those single notes (delete, re-write, copy, modify... etc.) without any success. What could it be???

Could anybody help me with these things please?

Welcome James.

Yeah the videos help a lot as does working through the tutorials.
If you get hung up on something come to the forums and ask away.

When you come for help it helps us to know what you're working with.
As in PC specs, soundcard/interface and some of the basic settings under Option/Audio depending on your issue.

There is a learning curve with all the new toys you purchased. It's easier if you pick one thing you want to learn, learn it, then move to the next task. It'll all come together pretty quickly.
It gets too confusing if you try to learn it all at the same time.

Enjoy yourself. Good times ahead.

Hello,

I am definitely a newbie here.  I just bought the sonar le/ ua-25 ex bundle and have hooked it up to my computer. I am running pc with xp.

I did the sample and apparently have it set up correctly.  But beyond that, I don't even know where to begin.  I guess to start, I have hooked my guitar into the front port and tried playing it. But I have no idea how to record or anything.

Was a set of instructions supposed to be part of the bundle?  I don't know where to begin except that it would be helpful if I had some advice - step by step - on how to start a recording?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Jim
