  • How's everyone getting on with the Nomad plugs?

I remember a lot of "meh"-ing about these plugins when X3 came out. A lot of people were complaining that the last thing we needed was a new set of free plugs when the old Sonitus ones were perfectly fine.

So how's everyone getting on with them now? I've only just started to explore them recently and I have to say I'm quite impressed. For instance sure I already have a bunch of choruses, but the Nomad one is probably the most versatile I've seen (even has an auto-panner built in). Similarly the delay is great. They can look a little daunting but once you learn how to use them they're actually fantastic plugins. I don't think they're "dated" at all...you could say the same about most Waves plugins and they're still great.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Dave Pensado using one of them in a tutorial video too (can't remember which one).

...wicked
I'm liking them but just starting to dive in. The reverb is surprisingly nice. It's true those Sonitus plugs really went the distance, heck I still use most of them, but no complaints about the Nomad stuff so far!

Actually, Dave Pensado has used Nomad plugins in at least 2 "In the Lair" episodes that I've seen in the past few months. If anyone is avoiding the Nomad plugins because they think they're "dated", they're missing out.

Even with the full compliment of Sonitus plugins and most of the best UAD-2 stuff in my arsenal, I still find use for the Nomad plugin's, particularly the Stereo Imager. It's incredibly easy to use and does just what it's supposed to.

Lovin' 'em. Especially the stereo imager and Brickwall Limiter. Brickwall has become my "go-to" plug-in for the stereo bus. The reverb is very nice too. One thing that caught my attention is a lot of the Nomad Plug-ins have presets for acoustic guitar and they sound pretty darn good with just a bit of tweaking. Good stuff IMHO.

As someone who has used and owned the UAD Pultec and Fairchild, I fine these plugs to be nothing more than pretty looking.  The problem for me is when you placed the UAD Pultec over the program material it gave a bump at around 100hz and this was before you even turned a knob.  In other words it actually added colour.

The Nomad Pultec does not do this, nor does the tube compressor add any colour.  So my question is what is the point??  I'd be happier if Gibson/Cakewalk continued to develop their pro channel stuff even though their last offering of a tape sim was less than brilliant.  It is useable though.

I have been asking for a decent Pultec EQ and Fairchild Compressor in Sonar for a while, and, I have to say, that I really like the BlueTube Pulec in the Nomad plugs.  I've not had much time to try out the Fairchild Comp, but it does soound nice.

I also like the PEQ5B EQ.  I've used the Chorus a couple of times, too.

I've only briefly played around with most of them, but think they're all pretty good.

I tend to use the ProChannel a lot now, so tend to add other effects into PC FX Chains.  I just wish that I could assign more knobs/buttons in the FX Chains.

I also have a liking for Nomad plugins. I have used their Studio Channel SC-226 alot on a drum buss. I have used some of the BT stuff that came with X3 and I have not found them wanting. But at the same time I am not a fan of "analog" sound. Though, I am not a fanatic about it. In the end I use what sounds good.

...getting on quite nicely with the NOMAD plugs... I work for a large company that has several of the recent compositions online now and folks like the way they sound. I do too!

BUT ...I recently used the Sonitus delay on a prjoect and it remains one of my all time favorites.... it is very musical and clean...

Ben I also use the Nomad Pultec plugin and like it a lot. I think I may have mentioned some time ago though that with everything set for unity gain etc the Nomad Pultec EQ gives a 3 dB boost just in overall gain. Not a biggie but worth noting none the less.

Hi Jeff.
I've tried it over many things and I just can't hear it and I'm not bragging but my ears are good.  I can hear the subtle bump when I place the console emulator over source material, same with the not so brilliant tape sim.  I just get nothing when I place the Nomad Pultec over source material.  I will try again later today, as I am mixing and mastering stuff for my uni project.
