  • How's everyone getting on with the Nomad plugs? (p.3)

I find myself more and more using the nomad stuff as fx for guits and keyboards,
they deliver a nice, special  colour.I like the chorus, phaser aso.

The Fa 770 compressor gives some "magic" to the signals, but imo not as magical as the ca2a (uad)
or the slate vbc.

The nomade blueverb drv 2080 is imo surprisingly delivering some very good small hall rooms
(imo hard to find)which fit very good to larger rooms of other plugs,
the presets  sound a bit muddy, but after some tweaking (equing the deep and deep middle frequencies
lowering the send level))it sound really good, specially the emt 124 emulation.

The eq peq2b  givres  warmth and punch and is a good alternate to the Pultec (uad).

I intended to use the nomad stuff more and more, because till now there have been
a lot of nice surprises using them. It needs some time to learn how to use best.

I like the sound of the limiter, but this let´s some " overs" (no extreme limiting)
get trough, which I absolutely don´t like.

They are shelfware for me simply because I used to have a million plugins, including all the UAD stuff, and for me nothing beats the waves stuff so I would rather spend my time getting to really explore them in depth.  Hence why I wish the FX bin in the prochannel was much bigger as I very rarely use the full prochannel suite in the manner it was intended.

Having said that, since X3 came out with the spectrum analyzer etc, I can never see me needing any other EQ apart from the in built one in the pro channel....that really is the mutts nuts!

Unfortunately I haven't had that much time to play with the Nomad plugs, but this thread just jumped "play with Nomad plugs" much higher on my list of priorities.

I think we all get a bit overboard on questing whether a pice of software is exactly like the hardware it's modeled from... I prefer to approach them with an attitude of does it work similarly... As with hardware each iteration of the hardware sounds different... With some gadgets excessively so...

I haven't use the Nomad stuff a lot, but to me, it works much like the hardware it's modeled from...

That being said I don't find a lot of need for any of them as the ProChannel stuff is so good. The pc76 is so like the 1176ln's I've used over the years that I don't even think about it... I just get my work done... Same for the CA2a... And the Quad-EQ is outstanding!

The Sonitus plugins are quite good too, but come from a more digital approach so I think differently when I use them... I use the EQ for occasional surgery but rarely have need for such, but the Delay is my go to ddl... Though it's missing some special things that some devices have, it covers most of my ddl needs... I don't use chorus much, but I do use flanging periodically and use the modulator for that... It's excellent...

Back to the Nomad plugins... I use the Peq2 quite a bit for the musical shelling I find it gives me... Very reminiscent of the pulled...

Are they the same as the hardware? I really don't care, but they work like it so I can follow familiar thinking and sound great...

...just my two cents...

Keni's post is the best post on this thread. Well thought out and full of interesting points.

Hi Keni, totally I'm not after the Pultec sound per sae I'm after colour and I just don't hear any from the Nomad Pultec included with bundle we got.

Jeff, that Pultec looks great and at a 129 bucks comparable in price to the UAD one.  I'm certainly going to have to look at getting one.  I'm collecting different plugs at the moment to replace the UAD stuff I got rid of a year ago.  As I have said it's pointless to invest in DSP's cards anymore.

Slighty off topic, I've just got the Kramer Master Tape effect from Waves, at 29 bucks a steal and I love it.  This is the way I am going these days, all native.

Ben,

Curious where you found the Kramer Master Tape effect for $29? For that money it would be a total non-brainer!

I've got the Nomad Integral Studio Pack III which has a little more plugs than the one supplied (and locked) with X3.

If you already had Nomad from a separate purchase, do not install the one that comes with X3 - it has less plugs, and if you installed over the same directory of your previous Nomad, it will be overwritten and only works with X3.

Other than that, Nomad is my current go to for chorus, phaser, echo and many others. The control is big and easy to tweak and sounds good to me.

Sorry it was a one off special a couple of weeks ago and it is a no brainer, great plug-in.
