If I go to 64 bit X3 in the near future, will my current 4 gigs of RAM work as well as it does in 32 bit or does it need more to do the same thing? The reason I'm asking is I'd first want to test the waters with 64 bit before buying the RAM.

On a 32bit system, even with 4GB of RAM, Windows can only access 3GB, with the use of the /3GB  switch (4GT), which is mentioned at the start of the article on Windows Physical Memory Limitations, and that deals with addressing virtual memory, so it's still conditional. See the article in the following link:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx

So, if you have 4GB physical memory and want to use it all, you benefit from using an X64 version of Windows, which will allow you to use it all, and in ways better than in a 32Bit operating system.

Hope that helps.

This problem is clearly not solved yet. Next week if I can go 2 days without a crash I'll mark it solved. Let's see what happens.

Right now after the reinstall, I'm having a serious VST scan problem unlike I had earlier. I have a new post about that.

Can you please look in the Windows Event Viewer, and post back any Critical Errors you have gotten in the past 24 hours?  If none there then look at other errors.

Thanks,

Bob,
What exactly are you looking for in the Event Viewer?
X3 has created 4 mini dumps on my office system; two in the subfolder "Plugins".
Some on the Studio rig as well (I'll have to document them).
I don't see anything in "Viewer" with the exact same timestamp.

@Tom - I just responded to your PM.

Sounds like a failing plugin.  Please list all plugins present in the project that produced the minidumps.

I am no expert on going through mini dumps, but we should be able to figure out what is happening.

Tried to open the problematic project to note all vst and vsti present and BOOM...
Here's the "Event Viewer"

I know there are several instances of Amplitube3, Rapture (frozen), and Superior Drummer.
I've "rebuilt" this project once (imported the audio and midi into a new project).
This is a very simple project!
Three audio tracks; bass, rhythm guitar (two lanes), lead guitar (3 lanes)
The frozen Rapture track and Superior.
This thing started crashing when I inserted Z3ta2 on the first project.
curiosior and curiosior....
This is all on my office rig Win7x86.
But I've been having some "issues" on my "Cat" as well.

As of now I can't use this new install of X3 due to this VST scan issue, so I reverted to an image a few days ago when I did all the Win updates, etc. After that is when I reported all these crashes and you suggested uninstalling X3 and reinstalling as administrtor. That's what i'm doing now,. I did uninstall Vsampler since that's initially what caused all the VST scan crashes. I hope I won't see the RXP problem again. I never had that problem when I initially installed X3 weeks ago.

I checked the Event viewer. I had a critical error today upon reboot, but I think that was because it got confused about me reverting to an Acronis image. Before that the last critical was 3/29/14

I did find all the instances of vst scan crashing. here's one of them below. Does that give you any clues?

Critical
4/20/14
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

@GMP - if you still have issues, then I think some closer examination of your download/installation/system is in order.

It might be something like Windows maintenance not being up to data prior to doing the Sonar X3 install.  Perhaps antivirus software was running during download and/or install and interfered with things.  Possibly want to try a complete removal of the current install of X3 and do it again with Run As Administrator.  Do these issues occur with all projects in X3, opening of older projects in X3, with particular plugins present, or perhaps with no plugins present?

Do the original download files have hash values that match the published hash values from the Sonar install page from the web site?

Lots of stuff to look at.  The fact that not so many folks report these kinds of issues suggests it is something unique to your system, or download, or install, or 3rd-party plugins.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with hash values unless you mean the underscores. Here's the exact file name I'm using to initiate the install run as administrator.
02_SONAR_X3_Producer.part1.exe
Is that what you were asking?

Aah - by 'hash values', I was referring to a set of data that helps to identify whether or not files that you download were corrupted during the download or not.

Cakewalk generated and published the 'hash values' for each of the several download files that comprise whatever version of Sonar you downloaded.  The importance of the Hash Values is that you can then use any one of a zillion freeware Hash Value generator programs to generate Hash values for the Sonar download install files, and then you can compare your hash values against the ones that Cakewalk generated for the same files.  If they match, then your download files are all intact - with no corruption.  If they don't match, then you know that somehow one or more of the downloaded files was corrupted during the download, and you will have to download them again.

Here is the link to the Sonar installation instructions web page:

http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/pages/x3_download_installation_instructions.aspx

At the bottom of the above page, there are links to pages that display information on the exact breakdown of the download files for whichever flavor of Sonar you downloaded.  Part of that information on those pages are MD5 Hash Values for each of the download files for the version you downloaded (X3, Studio, Producer).

So, go to the above link, then click on the appropriate details page for the version you downloaded, and write down those MD5 Hash Values.

Then, go download one of the free Hash Value Generator applications that are on the web, and generate Hash Values for the files YOU downloaded.

Then, compare the hash value you generated for the 1st download file against the Sonar web page's Hash Value for the 1st download file and make sure they match.  repeat this for each of the download files, and then please post back on whether or not everything matches up OK, or if there is a problem.

Here is a link to a freeware Hash Value Generator app you can use to generate Hash Tag Values for your downloaded files - to compare against the Cakewalk published ones:

I checked the Hash values and all 4 parts did verify just fine.
Check out my post below and let me know if you have any suggestions. To my frustration as of now I can't even try out the newly installed X3, because of this VST scan crashing problem. I'm baffled. I need to get work done monday and will have to use 8.5 until I can get this fixed. I can't use a lot of my pluggins due to the VST scanner crashing.
