Give the option to 'flag' at the top, rather then having to scroll down.............

It would be nice to spam just once. This would put the spammer in pending approval faster and would give them less satisfaction. The moderators can then decide if it is spam or not.

I think this was not done just because of potential abuse concerns. I was flagged once for telling an OP that his post was offensive, lol.

Hard to argue with that. Telling someone that you can't control your own emotions is hardly relevant.

I agree that one spam flag should be enough - anyone who abuses the flagging system gets a ban, so any idiots will effectively ban themselves - everyone's a winner !

One spam flag is too little in my opinion. Someone could theoretically go around flagging people's posts and then everyone's temporarily auto-banned until an admin catches wind of it. That's a big inconvenience for everyone. It's not uncommon for a few people to have to flag something for it to go away. I actually was concerned that three flags might be too little but it seems like it's been working pretty well so far.

Re: moving the flag location...

That would require customizing the forum software which really isn't worth it in the grand scheme of things. That flag location is nested in the same location as other elements. In other words, we'd have to actually redesign/hack a lot of UI for a very minimal difference, only for it to break each time the forum dev updates his software.

Although, the present system is not perfect it seems to work well and does make it hard for mischief makers to hold sway. I think it should be left alone. I have been one that has flagged many spam posts and at no time was there not enough others to do the same.

CW did a great job in coming up with a solution that actually works.

Everyone has their own opinion. I would like to make it a little harder for them to get on the forum. Enough said.

Well, I guess that's fair enough :-)

I think it is working pretty well at this point in time.

I can only imagine the crap that gets sent to people that are dumb enough to actually contact that idiot that is posting all of those stupid messages.  I'd feel sorry for them, except that it is because enough people fall for those scams to keep them coming, so it is their fault we have to go through this nonsense.

I think the solution Cakewalk came up with was brilliant, and seems to be working well.

There is a certain sense of satisfaction to see an avalanche of spam posts rapidly disappear as they are flagged.
