Starise
I had this on my desktop while doing some other stuff and went back to it several times. I finally hooked up my Boston Acoustic speakers complete with subwoofer, so I think I got a good representation of the music....actually listened to several of your other ones.

I came away from it with the feeling that nothing sounded out of place to me. The music itself is really relaxing. Very creative mix. I think this is a good example of a musician who is good at musicianship AND good at mixing. You wove the mixing and the music together in a pro way that I would be hard pressed to pick out from a lineup of anything else similar out there being sold for profit. One personal thing that struck me was the lower vocals are not something I'm accustomed to hearing all alone. I didn't dislike it, it was just a difference.

A few fixes are in place, thanks to some great forum contributors!

Starise - excellent, sir, glad you liked it, and thanks for the blog comments along the way! Much obliged - and keep it up, the world needs more deep thinkers!

Amine - you sure nailed it, my feeling too is that this song lacks that "arc" , but it's more of a groove-out kind of tune. It just kind of flatlines, I guess!

SteveC - many thanks, I think there's something to these chords, just kinda works for me, too - glad you like 'em. I know we all try to find that sweet-spot match between chords, melody, and rhythm! Shouldn't it be easier? :)

Bapu - good call on the drums being too loud, I lowered the snare a fair amount but now that you called my attention to it, it still seems on the loud side? I dunno. Too close to it now to make the right call.

Jesse - your songs are good examples of  "making your own rules" as far as arrangement goes, and I totally respect that! Keep up your excellent work . . .

KevinWal - yes good call on the vocal weirdness! Thanks for liking the song, it was fun to do . . .

Beagle - Clearly you know a thing or two about this stuff, and thanks, I dropped the lower vocal to where it's barely audible. I wonder if I may have cut it too much? Thanks again for the comments . . .

happy holidays to all of y'all!

Everything is clear as a bell. As other have mention there seems to be a problem with the vocals coming at me from through a tunnel, other than that I think you have nailed it.

Hey eSoul, I had to listen to this again.  I wanted to focus on the lyrics.

"We both watched the stars at night."  Is that your lover you're talking about?

"I'm blind without you anyway."  Where did they go?  I feel like that sometime too, when I'm away from the one I love.   Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

"I miss the shimmer and the glow, even the moonlight seems to  know."

I hadn't noticed the sax in there before, very realistic.

"our hearts behold the stars at night."

This is a great love song.

Hey Tom, very well done ...the arrangement is creative and keeps the listener's interest throughout.  The vocals are also spot on but something about the reverb bugs me a bit -- just a bit though.  Nothing else to critique -- very fine work...bravo.

Tom, I've always enjoyed your wide range of musical styles.  The songwriting and performances are excellent.  I like the way you panned all the elements of this mix to make it sound wide and large.  Everything is crystal clear, yet warm, like an analog recording.  I don't get as much time to hang out here on the forum as I used to, but when I can, I always listen to your latest tracks.  You inspire all of us.  Happy new year.

Much obliged (as Festus would say  . . .)

GusRogers - thanks hombre. I'm fighting the vocals a bit on this tune, it seems. To be honest I'm not really hearing the "vocals coming out of a tunnel" effect, but as four or five of y'all have made the same comment, I know it must be there somewhere.

Hey, actually, the vocals DID come out of a tunnel - my mouth is a tunnel! It's old, leaky, about to collapse. It's attached loosely to my brain, which is a Bridge to Nowhere.  :)

Jesse Q - thanks, yep it's about me wife. Ready? 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . .  "awwwwwwwww!"   Now back to the music.  :)

ABull - many thanks, you certainly know a thing or two or three about songwriting! I'll eventually figure the vocals out. there is a very light doubled vocal track, 1 octave lower. It  used to be completely audible, but I've tried to tuck it waaaay under the main vocal . Maybe it sets the reverb off - I'll check and see if both vocals are going to the same reverb. hmmmmm.

Lynn - very kind compliments indeed, thanks very much. You are always very open with your praise, and I like your work, too. When you hear the Radiators, you will think you are singing for them. Maybe! Here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv1Eu6azUx8              hope you like papaya . . .
Many happy returns to the forum, and keep bringing us yer songs!

cheers,
-Tom

Cool Bass line .... and keys!  The percussion is nice, clear and appropriate. (That snare really snaps) The vocals are interesting. Not crazy about the eq'ing on the vocals in the middle but it does work. Lovely little keyboard runs!!!! Tastey and the violin works well. Great stuff! Kudos!
