I'm not fond of CP piano sound as it always felt like a poorly recorded grand or upright. Not sure why it is even sampled or emulated at all.

Have to agree with you Soundwise...the CP80 IMHO was always a lousy sounding keyboard. But this still might come in handy to emulate that crummy sound when covering or paying homage to some eighties chestnuts.

Like it or not, it's the bomb if you're trying to get the sound for an old Genesis cover. That said, I didn't like the sound of this new one from Waves and rely on the Addictive Keys version. Back in the late 70's we were so happy to have one available. Dragging an upright to a gig was a non starter for us geetar players. Helping the drummer was bad enough, :)

The E Grand takes it's place along side the Melotron and the dreaded Farfisa. And that plastic horn with a keyboard on it. And most piezo pickups. Started out trying to sound like something else and failed totally. Now they are part of the band.

For me the 80's sound is the last sound I would want to replicate. Like the DX7 rhodes, urgh!. I took the Trio Package from XLN, with Grand, Upright and Rhodes, and not the E Grand for a reason. Yet in the name of completeness, if XLN put it in an upgrade offfer to the Trio package, I would kind of be tempted. I do see from their Demos a place in more modern music, and a sort of appeal. I like Peter Gabriel's work, but if I was to cover it, that's not a sound I'd seek replicate.

Thanks for reminding me of my musical status, B.
