Try what Bob says (1) with run as admin. If you are already doing that try the opposite.

I run As Administrator.

2. I don't like using simple instrument tracks, partly because of my using lots of Kontakt multi-racks and partly due to occasional weirdness with using simple instrument tracks.

simple instrument tracks, If it contains a MIDI clip, When I clone, it crashes.
Separating the simple instrument tracks, Midi and Audio track,when I clone,it does not crash.

That was my suggestion in my post. Don't use "Simple Instrument Track."
