Just tossing something out there...

It seems that firmware development has stalled a bit on the Tascam DP24 and that midi integration is a little weak.. but gotta tell you, in addition to being a great onsite MTR, the size and form factor would make it a perfect control surface... if we could have access to all those sliders, buttons, knobs....mmmmmm :D

if THAT could be made to happen its a solid control surface with a free MTR included at that price !!

Hmmm...interesting thought. I have no clue about feasibility, but will pass your comments along to be people who know infinitely more about the topic than I do.

The tascam DP 24has no moving faders.   Why would you want to use as a control surface?   It also does not send midi information for the physical controls (faders, knobs etc)   It is conceived to AVOID use of a computer

have to say I have zero idea where you are coming from with your abrupt post, but i will politely address each point you raised in turn.

a) Motorised faders
I am sure that >95% of control surfaces in use today do not have motorised faders..... (Novation amongst others has been hugely successful in providing exactly this sort of thing). FYI the ability to sync up the position of a non-motorised control knob or fader with a controlled element has been around for well over 20 years in synths.. this can and is used in the same way in control surfaces.

b) Why use the DP24?
One look at the form factor and control layout should tell you. Comprehensive, clean, tidy.

c) Midi
Yes. Yes it has midi. Feel free to check out the midi implementation guide.

d) The "conceived" purpose of DP24?
Adding or supporting DAW control surface functionality on products such as mixers and recorders has been around, and popular for well over a decade... I think a fairer statement would be that as a professional level mobile MTR why would the DP24 NOT have that feature.

I believe you will find it does NOT work as a control surface or interface.   I owned one of the earlier implementations a number of years ago and it is designed to be a fully self contained studio only. It has midi but does not translate midi fader info etc.  It is used for sync purposes " has MIDI in and out, but can only act as the leader in generating MTC or MIDI clock. .."    I also tried the novation and having to line up and equalize faders is time consuming and easy to loose track as you bank through your tracks.   Novation is best used with soft synths etc or other midi oriented implementation.   To mix with these tools is more work than it is worth in my opinion with faders personally  being my main hands on need.
