Yep, sorry.  Sonar will not run on a Mac unless you use BootCamp or find away to run Windows apps on a Mac.

Boot camp..........is this third party software?

Boot Camp is a feature of the Mac OS. Do a search. Basically, you partition part of your hard drive and install Windows (so you need a copy of Windows). Macs use Intel, and Boot Camp basically turns your Mac into a Windows machine. Cakewalk doesn't support it officially but I've been told Sonar runs very well on it.

Sonar runs great under Bootcamp... You'll need a copy of win7 pro as well as a pair of separate drives. One to format as win7 and the other for a windows audio drive... I'm told that you can run it within the Mac OS if you're using parallels instead of Bootcamp, but I've heard of some issues... I have my Mac Pro booting into windows by default and the only issue I've found is that the DVD drive open key on the keyboard doesn't work so I must manually open the drive from explorer... Other than that I totally forget it's a Mac, but have a dual Xeon quad system running Sonar!

Btw... I forgot to mention that Bootcamp comes with the Mac OS...

Kenny, why do you need Windows Pro to run Sonar under bootcamp. Will the home versions not work? They will certainly run Sonar under native windows.

You may be right, but it seems that other people I've chatted with had difficulty doing so and I don't know if it was due to the difference... Same for using separate drives... Instructions claim you can partition a drive to do this but everyone I know who has tried to do so failed... I know first hand that it works well with pro and separate drives...

I thought the point of buying a Mac was mostly using OSX. Otherwise it's just a very very expensive Windows box.

+1

Exactly my thought. Can someone explain why one would want to buy a mac if the plan is to only use windows on it? I'm confused 😖

Well... Honestly I inherited mine, but I can give you a good reason...

Do you know of many multi processor windows machines on the market? I found a few, but none are as widely used and tested...

...and on the less important side, it gives me a Mac for the rare occasions when I want/need one...
