Interesting! I didn't even know about Non-destructive MIDI Editing. Thanks for this information! I've encountered the truncation issue in the past and simply assumed that it was a necessary "evil" of working with musical information that I wanted to parse into easily arrangeable (is that a word?) segments. I guess not!

Non-destructive MIDI Editing will truncate notes (by slip-editing) right at the split point. This can leave just a stub of a note a few ticks long before the split point, making it virtually inaudible.

Quick follow-up question to this for clarification. It (sorta) makes sense if the note becomes incredibly short, but it almost sounds like the "truncating" is removing the note on command (yet leaving the note "present"). I guess this just caught attention because of the previous "quantize looping" thread. Can you clarify if the note on command is still there for notes truncated this way?

Yes, the Note On is there but the duration may only be a few ticks before the slip-edited end of the clip is reached which effectively generates a note off for every note sounding at that point such that an instrument with a slow attack will be all but  inaudible, and even something with a faster attack may appear to be missing from a mix. Also, if you split a clip and mute the earlier part, you'll lose that Note On entirely.
