  • [Solved] NI Battery equivalent in SONAR X3 natively?

Hi,

Does SONAR have an equivalent to NI Battery with which I can sequence my percussion/hats/tops?

The issue I have with NI Battery is that when I loop a section of the track, the percussion from Battery looses sync slightly with each loop. It gets worse with each time the loop repeats...

This has been in Battery 3 and 4 and SONAR X1 and X3...

B

not sure what you're asking.. there is step sequencer in sonar ? or you looking for something external you can do the sequences in and trigger.

vst wise.. and fxpansion do geist.. and izotope do a new thing.

I too am unsure what you are asking - sorry I need more coffee.

I use Battery 3 in Sonar literally every day.  I happen to currently use Step Sequencer in Sonar to sequence up drums, but lots of folks use Piano Roll View.

I keep promising to invest time into Piano Roll View, but just have been too lazy to do it.

I do not have any problems where Sonar's Step Sequencer is out of whack on timing when playing back sequences triggering sounds in Battery 3.

So, please do elaborate on what is occurring for you, where you are having looping problems with timings.

Thanks,

Battery isn't a sequencer. It's a sampler slicer and dicer (you can make loops and you can trigger from another sequencer such as Sonar).

Maybe nearest equivalent is Cakewalk RXP (although it's 32 bit, I'm not sure it got included with X3).
Battery works fine for me so more detail please.

The simple answer is no, there is no native battery equivalent in Sonar.  One could achieve a good portion of the functionality of battery using a combo of plugins and features but nothing even comes close to an apples to apples comparable product in Sonar. Your best bet would be to get to the bottom of your looping issue .  Determine if it is a bug or specific to you.  It actually would be a good thing if it is specific to you since that will probably lead to a quicker resolution than the possibility of it being a longtime bug.

SOLVED!!!!

Issue : My hats in Battery seemed to lag further and further behind with each loop in SONAR.
Solution : I noticed that my gain at the top of the console channel was set to -1.7.  When I set it to zero again, my sync issue disappeared. (Clearly a bug)

Can someone please confirm this by changing gain on a channel and looping?

I this just when using battery or can you recreate it using other plugins?

There was something discussed about the Gain knob and instrument tracks a while back.   I don't recall the details, but I'm pretty sure it is/was a bug.

Yes, it is a bug that Cakewalk has acknowledged. And yes, the answer is to set the audio channel's volume to 0...how the two relate I'll never know, but at least there's a fix.

I cannot reproduce. Here are my steps would it be possible to revise them if incorrect?

Create new project in Sonar X3D.
Insert Battery soft synth.
Bring up Pro Channel Console
At the top of the channel (1) for the battery soft synth, observe gain set at zero.
Change gain knob to -17.
Drag a drum loop MIDI pattern into the track.
Press the loop button (so it turns blue) and set the marker points appropriately for a repetitive loop.
Turn on the metronome for playback.
Play for five minutes.
