Anyone using the avid transport in Sonar or Vegas?  If so how well is it working?

Never used it myself but got to see it in use at NAMM one year, when I believe it was still a Euphonix product, before the Avid takeover.

It's definitely got sex appeal, very cool-looking. The main downside I could see is that (at least at the time) it required an Ethernet connection. Many users prefer not to have active network adapters in their DAWs, due to their tendency to hog the I/O bus and interrupt channels.

Personally, I'd prefer to have conventional transport controls rather than just a jog wheel, which is basically what this device is. I suppose if you do a lot of video editing it'd be easy to justify a $400 jog wheel.

As for SONAR compatibility, it uses the EUCON protocol, which SONAR supports (CW was pushing Euphonix control surfaces for a while). I'd therefore expect the transport controller to also be compatible with SONAR. Might be a question to ask Cakewalk directly.

According to Avid it can also send mackie control data with less functionality than eucon. I just want to make sure the loss of some features isnt a deal breaker. I have a shuttle pro right now but the Avid wheel is nicely weighted- it also looks nice on a desk! I can get it for $275 on boxing day so if it works well with sonar/vegas its a no brainer. Just thought I would check here to see if anyone has used one.

Editing large video projects with  a mouse is painful. Performing three to four nights a week on double bass/hydro bass combined with mouse pain will end my carreer early. A nice big jog/shuttle is a life saver!

No, no, no - t's far more than just a fancy jog wheel and it certainly does have all the necessary transport controls (i.e., the 7 buttons just above the jog wheel (and shuttle ring).  It's very customizable with 6x2 (SHIFT) assignable buttons, not to mention that the numeric keys can be freely assigned to any available parameter.  It's an excellent control center, but to be honest, Sonar's EUCON support is pretty lame - not enough assignable parameters available to EUCON to make it worthwhile IMO.  I love it with Pro Tools, where the available parameters seems nearly endless, but I don't think I'd recommend it for someone who only uses Sonar.  Sorry, I don't have Vegas, so I can't comment.
