I used to use this a lot to balance live backing tracks.  Was totally invaluable for that and worked great.  In the studio, I'll probably never touch it.  Tried home brew mastering and I always ended up making things worse.  I figure the day I bring it back to life, I'll pull $12 out of my wallet (if the offer is still valid), and go forward from there.  But for now...

If you are already a registered Har-Bal user the upgrade price is $12.00 USD plus tax.

mine email said "You can upgrade from Har-Bal 2.3 to Har-Bal 3.7 for a fee of $41.95"

I think we paid 30 dollars to go from 2.3 to 3.0.
Now 12 dollars to go from 3.0 to 3.7 equals 42 dollars total.
So Your $41.95 price is completely fair.

Edit: I just checked my old receipt and I paid $29.95 for the 2.3 to 3.0 update.
29.95 + 12 = 41.95

no ideas of numbers but $12 times 3000 upgrades wouldn't be chump change.

You are exaggerating and not being fair to the the Har-bal guys.
I paid 99 dollars for the very first version.
Then I paid about 30 dollars for an upgrade that was well worth it.
Then I paid 12 dollars for the latest update.
Done.

That said, this software is not for everyone. It is for those of us that want to have every available option for mastering and/or repairing audio tracks. You have to know what you want to do to the track to use the software. It does not magically fix your track. It is a very good tool to have when you know what your track needs.
