  • What I really need is to color-code timeline measure numbers (p.2)

How about the Video Thumbnail pane? Never tried it myself, though.

Yeah, I actually looked at it myself last night. It is black. lol.

But if you manage to create few-second videos that each show a different color you can maybe load them in there and use like colored clips? I don't know.

As I understand- holding and playing videos is processing power demanding, so it is not the best solution.

Then how about putting those 60+ tracks into several track folders and expand only one folder or hide the tracks you don't need to see all the time?

Oh, btw, I don't think CW will add or bring back a feature that they think won't help Sonar sell better (i.e. I don't think many will be excited by the return of the Undo/Redo buttons in the Control Bar, but there'll be many who will like a color-codable timeline.)

I kind of need to see all of them. This is how I know where I am- I look on the wav shape and I can tell that it is synth or base or pad by it's look. I try to make myself to name the tracks, but still- I like to see them. There is a view where the video view is that we can see all tracks very small, so may be I should use that... Still color coding would help very much.

Lawjava, I liked your idea, but practically it would not work for me. My songs have 60 and more tracks, so I will not be able to see top midi track at the bottom of the track list. The timeline is always visible and should be color-codable.

This idea of dummy midi blocks in a track was suggested once before.  I tried it at the time and had the same experience, i.e. the fact that it's not visible most of the time makes it not worth the bother.

Yeah Jlien that's exactly how I work it. I use track folders and H (track manager) all the time. I can see all my tracks I need to mix at any time in the Console View, which is just D away. (Keyboard shortcut to toggle).

In the track view for the most part I hide everything but that top track and keep visible the tracks/folders I'm presently working on. Every track is just H away (keyboard shortcut) from being visible if I want to look at some additional track(s).

I actually find it more productive to look at less tracks on my screen. Keeps my attention focused on the part I'm working on.

But if you don't hide tracks/folders I would agree that the top track will not be visible after you load 60 tracks.

This is true. As soon as the project is scrolled upwards, the first "dummy/template" track is lost. I do use this technique, however. It's the best we've got. Also, doing this template thing is more than just knowing where to put the various parts of a song (e.g. intro, verse, chorus, etc.); it's useful for tracking the counts and measures if the project/song does not start at measure #1. Since there is no offset feature in Sonar (despite being requested by several people) the "dummy/template" track is the next best thing.
