  • Quick Start Guide for X3?

Does anybody know where to find a downloadable copy of the X3 Quick Start Guide (presuming such exists)? I got the download version of X3, so no box, and I'm still keeping the X2 version to hand.

I've tried searching the forum, but the search facility is just too restrictive. Unless you instantly come up with a good search term, you get "Please wait a bit ...". Imagine if Google implemented a search rationing program ...

Hi ChristopherM

There really isn't a quick start guide, but the User Guide should be helpful. For the quickest start you're probably gonna get, read the "Getting Started" section. For a more detailed explanation of the features and functionality of SONAR, see the extensive Help available in the Reference guide/manual. For a better start go through the "Getting started" section in the Reference Guide and read the "New Features In SONAR X3" section. Then, eventually, read the entire Reference Guide. :) Here's the link to download the User Guide and the Reference Guide:

SONAR X3 is complex software with comprehensive features an impressive functionality for sound authoring and music production, so reading the "Getting Started" section of the User Guide is about as quick start as you're probably gonna get. There is so much put into this software package, which means there's a lot to learn. However, seeing how powerful SONAR is, that's a good thing, as there is so much you can get out of using SONAR. There's a learning curve, but it's really an exciting adventure.

Happy learning and cya around.

A better place to search for Cakewalk documents is the search engine on the Cakewalk home page. Alternately, product specific downloads are found on the product support page. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/product.aspx/SONAR-X3 As pointed out above this version has a Reference and User Guide. There is no Quick Start Guide for X3 the keyboard shortcuts are in the Reference and have a dedicated link in the help menu.

Thanks guys. I already have the Reference and User Guides. I have been using Sonar since 1 XL and through all of its incarnations. I'm really only looking for a quick reference to key assignments to keep to hand for easy reference. The one that came in the boxed edition of X2 was really quite useful in that respect, and most of it remains valid, but it doesn't cover everything in X3, of course.

There's a Groove3 video that only covers the new additions to X3. It's by Eli K,rantzberg, so is very good.

It's cheap, too.

Looks like a "no"? FWIW you can search the forum at Google by adding "site:forum.cakewalk.com" to your search words

Hi Guys,

I was able to dig these up. I've updated our article to include links: http://www.cakewalk.com/S...reader.aspx/2007013322

Ryan - Thanks, that is exactly the format that I was looking for.

But, without wishing to appear ungrateful, I see that the content is identical with the X2 QS. Hasn't the Smart tool functionality expanded in X3? Just saying ...

I don't think the goal was to make the guides different since the fundamental tools should hopefully not drastically change between X1/2/3/etc (from what I hear we threw people for a loop with 8.5 to X1 :)

I think it's still relevant as a quick start guide for people getting started who are new to X2 and/or X3.

Probably the best place for the most updated in-depth info on X3's tools in the online documentation page here: http://www.cakewalk.com/D...&Req=Tools.01.html

This should reflect any changes made since production since we update the online documentation with every update.
