  • Trouble with EZDrummer after X3 upgrade

I just upgraded to X3 from Sonar 8. It went relatively smoothly on win7. I installed as the 32 bit version. After the upgrade I opened a project I was working on that had ezdrummer. In Sonar 8 I had the midi split to individual tracks. All of my drum tracks show up in X3 but the audio is not routed to the individual tracks anymore but the sum goes to the master buss so I do get the audio just not split to tracks.

The track that used to have the ezdrummer softsynth only says "Dfh sampler" now. If I click on it, it opens ezdrummer. I've never seen "Dfh sampler"

I cannot insert the softsynth because it is not in the list. I have the .dll in the vst folder but regardless it does not show up in the softsynth list, only the Dfh samples does.

Any suggestions??

Thanks
Mike

Was the reset and rescan run after the SONAR upgrade?
Is the 64bit version of SONAR running now?

You may also need to update ezdrummer. FYI, there was a change in vst naming in X2 with the introduction of the Cakewalk ini variable VSTPluginNameFormat see http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X3&Lang=EN&Req=INI_Files.4.html for more information.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm running 32 bit ezdrummer as well as 32 bit X3.

I updated ezdrummer. I also performed the rescan but I still don't see "ezdrummer" in the synth insert menu, only dfh sampler. I guess I don't care what it's called right now but a copy is inserted into one of my tracks and it plays audio so not all is not lost. I still can't get audio to the individual tracks pre upgrade.

I have my midi notes playing from a midi track (9). There are input, output, midi channel, bank and patch dropdown boxes.
The input is: Omni
Output: 2-ezdrummer2 (there is also 1-ezdrummer1, but if I choose this I get no audio from ezdrummer)
Midi channel: 1 (there are 16 channels available)
Bank: 0
Patch: none

Each one of the individual drum track inputs are set to ezdrummer 1.

Any ideas??

Thanks again.

If I am reading this correctly the problem you are trying to solve is assigning the EZD kit pieces to individual audio tracks. Here is the process:
1) insert EZD into a project
2) When the "Insert Soft Synth Options" dialog is displayed (ignore the red box). Make sure "MIDI Source" and "All Synth Audio Ouputs: Stereo" are selected. I also check "Synth Track Folder" but it is optional.
3) Bring up the EZD Mixer and right click on one of the ouput drop downs. Select "Multichannel"
That should do it. Maybe rename the tracks to the appropriate instruments, add a drum bus, route the tracks to a bus then select all the track and drum bus and save it as a track template for future use.

My Toontrack products are in a Toontrack folder from the synth rack. Is your EzDrummer in a folder possibly and not out in the open as EzDrummer for insert into SONAR??

Make sure you do a RESET and NOT just a rescan also.

Make sure SONAR is running v1.3.3 of EZD. The version number is in the bottom right-hand corner of the EZD UI.
