Mod Bod, sorry to hear you're having issues. I finally gave up. After 14 years of Cakewalk and now 2+ years of Roland at the helm, if they can't get it right and keep it right, they probably won't get it right. Sounds harsh but it's my money and I want to record, not beta test software products.

The Maillard Reaction
Last time when I purchased X1, and X1 Expanded and observed how much I didn't like about it I was ridiculed for having purchased it.

This time I didn't purchase X2 and I am being ridiculed for not having purchased it.

I'm having the last laugh.

Sonar 8.5 works really good.

Good luck Dave, I agree with you. No product has stepped up as a does it all tool and it seems like after 20-25 years of development that some one would have gotten it right.

I miss Ron Kuper.  He seemed to get "it".

all the best,
mike

Hi Guys...

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with X2 Mod Bod... You know (I'm sure) How I've ranted against the X generation since it's release...

But in some way I guess I've been lucky... I run x64 and other than issues I have with Lanes, the current zoom in-capabilities, and general navigation, it's been running fine... Likely because I'm using almost nothing but Cakewalk products these days... That's something they got right. The PC plugins are wonderful even if some opinions don't claim them "best"...

I do get frequent crashes, but they are almost entirely when loading a different song/project...

Most of the stability issues I see complained about seem related to 3rd party plugins of all sorts... And mostly in the x64 realm... So I remind myself that although Cakewalk has been releasing x64 for a long time, most others have not and the combined compatibility issues on both sides is still resolving down to solidity...

So if I was relying heavily on the use of 3rd party stuff, I would probably stick with x86 a lot more... I'm guessing that a few more release versions are gonna be necessary for all involved...

Luckily, I've been (and still am) too poor to buy anything other than my DAW itself these days... So it helped me avoid the extra grief... I find te PC modules so much better than anything else I own that it keeps me struggling with X for that (almost) alone...

I don't believe changing DAW will help overall as every one of them has it's issues and they quickly become annoying once you're dealing with it regularly... I've worked with so many of them over the years that release after release made a believer of me (in this)...

A solution? I think only patience will help and finding work arounds in the mean time. Of course, if you've got the cash to own many/all DAWs, you can bit the learning curve bit and switch between them as desired... I believe there will always be "reasons"...

I too miss Ron Kuper and the team of those days... Not to diminish the current team, but I was definitely a lot more connected with the development back then...

I'm having the last laugh... No...you're just determined to be wrong, as usual..folk can use what they have, and still be effective.

If you are indeed getting a blue screen crash, then event viewer should list what happened and link to a Minidump saved on your system. If you can end me the minidump, I should be able to see what is crashing.
A BSOD is always a driver crash not an app crash. Apps talk to drivers in different ways so its completely possible that something that works in one app (X1) crashes in another (x2) just because of subtle differences that may expose the crash in one scenario but not another.

why would you change how sonar talks to the driver?

I will try to get this all together for you in a few days.  I have guests at present and I might not have as much free time as I would like.

Sir Les
Hi There Mod Bod
Looking over your specs...Seems you have a UAD plug..meaning? you are using a UAD card...
interestingly enough...I once was using this with firewire / Zed r16 mixer...To be frank...it did not work, and crashed and froze up constantly.

IRQ's are required some times Needing to be "exclusive" by some cards...(Thus the amount of cards one can put in a system and work reliantly, is reliant on That basis point)...Sharing IRQ's can be done..and window 7 and 8, automatically assign those IRQ's to share when not enough are available...Win 7 also makes up virtual IRQ's...Not sure what win8 does.

With my system the only resolve was to remove the UAD card , and continue to use the firewire audio Zed setup.

In your case PCI audio still takes up a IRQ...and so does the UAD card...hence check that out in the: Start /all programs/Accessories/system tools/system info...and see what Window has done...Might be sharing with a controller chip set or something like that...vital system chip.

My solution for the UAD card was to build a new system based on USB audio interface..Thus reducing the amount of needing IRQ's as USB takes up one to begin with for the system...and then only installing the UAD card in that system....turning off all redundant things in Bios (Nic/ Audio/Ports)

The are no work arounds with IRQ's in Win 7 or 8...it is automatically done, and no manual control is available...as far as I know of.

Hope this helps...I'd say Yank the UAD card and try it out...if you find things working when done...get a usb audio...and put the card back in and see what happens.

IRQ's effect Drivers performances and apps that use them....So be mindful.

Just wanna try to help....cause it helped me!

Blessings!
