  • What does the Breverb full version have over what comes with X3? (p.2)

yeah Rocky... I bought mine brand new as well.  Bought some Acoustic solid state at the time, because the Doors used them. ..and the bass player had the 360 or whatever model that beast was.  The solid state went immediately back and the Ampeg came home.  I still have one 4x12 cab.  I never really use it anymore, but I've had it for so long now, it would be heresy to get rid of it.  All the other guitar players I played with in bands, typically had the Marshalls... the Ampegs were a fantastic match.

Stealing 4 x 12 cabs...that's a new one.  I guess the head was to heavy to carry!

so... back to the Breverb question....  a pro channel comp would be better money spent, eh?  However, I'm finding the stock 1176 pretty tasty.

I bought an Ampeg V-4 full stack instead of a car when I turned 16. The two cabinets were stolen years ago but I still have the head. The first amp I ever bought was an Ampeg Reverborocket 2.

I can tell.you this much, I use the Small Spaces setting of Breverb a lot. I remember getting almost discouraged when I got the upgrade. But after using it in Sonar and other programs, I don't regret it at all.

But the comps that CW has for sale are really good. I use them all the time.

I can't speak for the Breverb upgrade, but I can highly recommend the other Pro Channel modules.

Top of the list would be the Ca2a Leveling Amp - it is fantastic. Works really well in conjunction with the PC76, which I like too.

The Concrete Limiter is also good, on tracks as well as busses. The 4k Channel Comp is nice, but took me a while to get used to setting up right. The 4k expander/gate is also very useful, and very easy to set up.

So, personally, I would go with some more PC modules. They frequently go on sale, so I have probably bought several for the price of the upgrade to Breverb.

JMHO.

Sorry, double post.

It's also worth noting that you can get an excellent third party reverb like ValhallaRoom or Valhalla VintageVerb for just 50 bucks, with an entirely different but no less usable sound.

I knew that, but forgot about it.  THANKS for the reminder.  The wife already OK'd the Melodyne upgrade, so hopefully when I activate, that's still happening.

Just for the record, I agree on the CA2A being excellent and worth the money, and the Concrete Limiter is worth it especially if you don't have other good plugs yet that could replace it.
I'm not a huge fan of the other PC compressors/gates myself but that has to do in part with the PC format (which many people really really like). You already have the SSL bus version I think.

I would say that probably the 1176, LA2A and SSL4000 bus comp are the three most famous classic compressors. It would be a great base to start from. So if you can only get one right now, perhaps the CA2A makes more sense than another algorithmic reverb, even though it's a great one.

Sorry to add to the confusion! :)

I like Breverb. I like the CA2A. Frankly, I like all of em.

Sometimes when people hear mixes with the CA2A they accuse me of over compressing. idk why. The compression is almost identical to mixes the same people like just using different compressors. CA2A is nice and smooth, but my message is that it really isn't a one plug-in that replaces all others. :-)

For my mixing style, I really like perfect space for reverb, or recording a verb in the room with a figure 8 pattern mic like you do with mid-side processing.

I do use Breverb a lot. I often use several instances on one project, putting just a hint on the different instruments and synths for flavor. There are a lot of fun tweaks you can do with Breverb. I suggest getting happy with the nobs. I'm I guy who likes nobs.
