The X series uses the the edit filter on each track header. To edit things you first need  decide what sort of editing you want to expose to editing. The key command T will bring up the tools bar and is also a module in the Control Bar. I use the Smart tool a lot but but that uses top and bottom areas of the track to determine what the tool will be/do. It will take some getting use to but it is very fast and handy. For copy and paste use the select tool to select what you want to copy then either drag it or use the right click to goto the edit menu and select copy and then paste. You can bypass all this with key command combinations.  
 
You may also want to look at a video on the differences between 8.5 and X1 or X2, I forget what it is called. It will still apply to X3.
 
Be sure you up grade to the E patch.

Awesome. Right, that's almost certainly not an problem with the runtime library, that's most likely a bug in Sonar itself, or in its configuration. Chasing around after different versions of the runtime is probably a wild goose chase. There are ways to debug such problems, but they're often quite technical. Given your situation, it could be that the old version of Sonar is somehow loading up something from the new version of Sonar, trying to use an old feature that isn't supported, and this crash occurs. You might want to look at that Dependency Walker program and see if 8.5 is somehow connecting to any of the new DLLs from X3.

--John, I won't post anymore of these temporary quandaries that come up as I learn the program.  I'll keep working, watching the Groove 3 vid tutes, reading the manual.  I shouldn't have listed any ??s yet - If something still puzzles me later on when I should be up to speed, then I'll post questions.  Thanks for your answers - I've spent the last couple hours with the constant menu clicking to engage the kind of editing I need to do, so I get that now - but I'm sure it'll take time before all those extra clicks don't seem like a pain in the butt. I plan on being more informed and experienced before asking more questions that deserve a "RTFM" response.

I Did post an observation earlier though - That at least on my machine, "Clean Audio Folder" is still broken, like it was/is in 8.5 - Actually it's behavior is worse, since the routine can't even finish the scan.  

--Kylotan - thanks for the analysis. I sure wouldn't have thought an error message labeled "Runtime Library Runtime Error" doesn't have anything to do with the Runtime Library - But your theory otherwise makes sense to me, it's as I said earlier, 8.5 has to be trying to access an updated file that it can't handle.  But I've looked at the DW output again, and have NO idea how I would figure out from that what X3 file it may be trying to use.  And - if I did discover that - I sure don't know how to make it not do that!
