  • Synth rendorings and playbaack sometimes distorted

I do a lot of bounding to tracks in my projects to get a test mix for export.

I don't know if it is the bounce to track or some kind of memory leak but I get a heavily distorted playback from synths on the bounced track and during playback. This is not new to X3, but is happening in the X series. Never seen it in 8.5 or below.

This one project I am working on has consistently displayed this behavior one out of 4 bounces and I have to shut SONAR down and restart it to get normal playback again.

The only synths that I encountered this with recently was DimPro. I have 2 instances of it in this project. I have also had this happen with the TTS synth too.

The drum synth Superior Drummer 2 does not distort.

I have the following in the project
2 - B4II
Trilogy - not used but in project
TTS-1
SD2
2 - DimPro
EZkeys

Some of these are 32-bit in a 64-bit host.

Anyone run into this before?

So a distorted bounce plays back normally after restarting SONAR, without re-bouncing?

Perhaps one of the synths you are bouncing should not use fast bounce.

yes, and maybe.

Restarting SONAR will get me normal playback and bounce. I can bounce without issues but then DimPro gets all distorted.

I will try to get as small a project that replicates this and see if I can nail it down to what the components involved are exactly, if I can...

Since I removed Trilogy, EZkeys and TTS-1, I have not had any bounce or playback issues.

My thoughts are the TTS-1. I have seen this synth go south in other projects. in process of adding it and doing multiple bounce and UNDO's.

WOW!! - I just stumbled onto the cause I think. I can reproduce this issue of distorted synths by clicking in the timeline and changing the NOW time during playback. This only happens after an UNDO of the bounce to track of the whole project.

This is my recipe - maybe unique to my project though

1.  Open 'Driving the nail' project
2. Scroll down and undo solo of bounced track that was a bounce to track result
3. Archive Bounced Track
4. CTRL-A - to select all tracks for bounce to track
5. Track/Bounce to Track
6. Solo Bounced Track
7. Press Play then press stop
8. CTRL-Z for undo processing of bounce
9. Press play
10. During playback click in the timeline to change NOW time during payback - Distortion ensues

This is a 100% recreate for the distortion here. I think it has something to do with UNDO processing. If I do not have any undo processing, the project plays fine and all of the synths sound fine.

I thought I read somewhere that TTS-1 had issues running in an x64 environment...?
... I'm on my mobile, but I'm thinking it was in the upgrade/install notes...

I have not read about issues running TTS-1 in 64bit SONAR but it will distort if the project is running at a high sample rate and the synth is not setup correctly.
  • Open TTS-1
  • Click the System button on the TTS-1 UI
  • Click the Option button in the "System Setting" dialog
  • Click the Options tab in the Options dialog
  • Check the "Light Load Mode" box
The configuration is not saved with the project so the TTS-1 setup must be performed every time the project is opened.

I just removed TTS from the project on a fresh session of SONAR and the problem still persists.
  44.1 and 24-bit btw...

If this is reproducible with a brand new project please let us know with steps Conley. Thanks..
