I personally always listen through my exports in WMP (the start and the ending, at least) before sending files out and there's never been any surprises soundwise. I'm pretty sure you have to actively set an FX or EQ to make WMP fudge up your audio!

PS Just to let the Original Poster know,Windows Media Player ALWAYS makes rendered/exported files sound "brighter",I discovered this sometime ago,and now I only use VLC free media player to playback/check exports.
Of course there are a multitude of media players,but Windows Media Player definitely does not replay files as they"are",even when one has made SURE to disable ALL "enhancements",why it does this,or more importantly why Microsoft thinks all our files need "extra treble",is of course a mystery.

WAit!! when did X4 come out??
 
As far as the posters problem, the is no problem. Its either 3 things (or all the above of 2 of 3)
1.) You jus need to look at your media playback options. sonar exports exactly what you tell it to. you could be setting your export options Wrong!
 
2.) Your routing in sonar is wrong.
a. Tracks go to the master bus
b. Master bus goes to the main outs 1/2
c. Sends go to buses (if you have any)
d. Buses go to the master bus (if you have any)
When your done fixing your routing: Export, you select main outs or entire mix for your source and you will hear exactly what you hear in sonar on any playback system.
 
3) Getting mixes to translate on other playback systems is an art form, so maybe your room needs to be tuned and your ears need to be tuned to that room, as you need to hear the true sounds of each track and of your mix.
a.) As you should already know, media players an d hi fi stereos systems color the sound and some can make your song more bassy or more trebley. This is why you need to work on your mixes being able to translate well on each playback system.

Yeah. Say Marc 2109. Though you do have SONAR X3 in your original post, you may want to change the tittle of this thread to reflect it's SONAR X3 you are referring to. not SONAR X4.
 
Try the advice in post #8, post #10, and post 13. How does the file sound when listening with a wave editor such as Audacity?
 
Are you using onboard sound to playback sound when using WMP and an audio interface semi-pro or pro when listening at playback using SONAR?
 
Double check your export audio settings.

I'm sorry about the Typo..of course I meant X3.  My routing in Sonar is correct...thanks for that advice.  The internal soundcard of the computer is disabled.  I am using Fast Track Ultra and my monitors for everything.  I just found out how to check the settings in Media Player, so I will do that tonight.  Thanks for all the help folks.

I hear no difference in media player...

WMP is likely using the "enhancements" section of the default windows sound card. These have to be editted in the "sound card settings" for that device.

Be thankful it's not the other way around, more people have windows media player than Sonar........

I was the similar problem. My problem gone after i open Playback option in windows (sorry i dont know how it is in english i dont have english version Win7). And go to Monitors or Headphones > right click > options > Effects > Turn off system effect.
