So my normal routine is this...client sends me an hour long TV doc/reality show on a Quick Time file,  I drop it into Vegas and split the picture between segments and render AVI files that get imported into Sonar.
 
Well last week I did that and in my hast I accidentally imported the hour long QuickTime file instead of my AVI File.  I completely scored the 1st segment (about 10mins) and was mixing it down before I noticed my mistake.
 
So that brings to mind a couple of things.
 
1) Not only did Sonar playback a QT file (new to X3), it played back a QT file from an Avid system that normally gives my computer some trouble.
2) It imported the whole hour long program and played back fine.
 
My system never choked, crashed, slowed down or did anything to make me realize what I had done.  I might have to re-think how I work.  I could never import a video that long before and work without major issues.    
 
    
 
 
Now if we just could get Staff View up to speed, I would be in heaven...

Glad to hear. Don't do much video but would like to. Like the staff view deficiencies, it's an area that needed work in SONAR based on user feedback. Nice that this improvement essentially slipped into a free patch to X3.

I've also had good luck with importing videos into Sonar and adding audio. Definitely improved over previous versions.

Not only that...Once I finish a segment I spit out a mix, re-name the file for the next segment, delete everything, import the next video and get to work.
 
Well once I forgot to "re-name" the Sonar file, so in essenance I deleted a whole 16 hour day's worth of work (even though I did have a stereo mix,  I would have to recreate everything to send stems to the final mix).  But low and behold the whole thing was intact in one of the "Versions" Sonar now creates.
 
Some days it is just better to be lucky than good.  I need to start paying closer attention.

I never really had an issues before importing Video both in AVI and MOV but am very happy to hear things are improved for you.
 
Now, if they would just improve the Export video options to make the workflow better then that would be ace (i.e some decent export video options and not the myriad of trial and error mumbo jumbo thats currently in place)

I was also pleased to see Sonar able to import mp4 files.  However, one of the trade-offs is that in the new mode (don't remember what it's called) you can't change the start point of a video.  That's kind of a bummer.  I've also noticed that exporting .mov files seems, at least on my system, to be broken.  The video options button no longer opens and using the default settings always crashes Sonar.

Using Sonar to export video is a huge waste of time.  I have a secondary computer for going on-line and other things that i use to generate video files.  So I export a stereo mix and drop it into Vegas and use vegas to create a Quicktime file.  All on the other computer.  It is way more effecient.  I spend more time on my DAW.

Normally I send exported mixes to our video editor and he lays back the audio to video.  Once in a while I need to send an approval file to a client & he may be tied up, which is why I've had occasion to export video from Sonar.  I'd hate to buy Vegas just for that, but if there's a lower cost solution that does a nice job, that may be a good option (until Sonar does it better).
