New to X3.  Need to edit multitrack live performance and sync to video of the performance.  Putting together a 2 minute promotional video to market my band.  Any suggestions or tutorials to help me get started?

You cant edit video in Sonar. I would make the edits of the video in a 3rd party video editing suite and then import the locked cut into Sonar where you can make any mastering/EQ changes.

To be more specific, you can of course mix a multitrack project while a video plays along, you just can't cut the actual video or apply transition fx or whatever. So import your video precut, then mix your audio alongside. Move the audio to fit the video.

Sony's Vegas Pro is a very good video editor and plays nice with Sonar.  Also Sony's Sound Forge Pro is a "go to" audio editor which can be accessed thru Sonar.

There have been some incredible deals lately for Vegas Pro (< $200 I believe). Check out the Software section of this site for links.

Songs don't lend themselves to being moved, cut and pasted in order to synchronize with video.  Seems to me (although I've no expertise)  that Sonar is so close (one is able view each individual frame) to  to being able to delete or copy-and-add frames of video that it would be a no-brainer to incorporate such a feature ... wouldn't it be?

+1 to the Sony Vegas/SoundForge suggestion.  I recently purchased the "older version" of Vegas Studio (version 11) on Amazon for about $35, and it came with SoundForge and some other goodies.  It is an excellent, full featured editor that allows me to cut visuals to music, and manipulate music to fit visuals.  With X3 Producer, Vegas, and SoundForge I feel that I finally have a complete, powerful set of tools for creating music and video.

Not as much of a no-brainer as you think.  Incorporating actual video editing into Sonar would likely be bug city for a years.  The levekl of commitimnet to video to produce a product that is relatively stable usually means the audio portion remains stagnant.  The only major program I know of that made the leap from strictly audio program to video editor is Vegas and although the audio capabilities are amazing for a video editing program, the audio portion has not budged much since.

I welcome improvement ts to how Sonar handles video but I would much prefer continued improvments on handling various formats and sync issues.  I have video editors.  I just need to be able to roundtrip video in a way that does not leave me worrying things will be a few frames off.

I have two or three video editor software packages and can go outside of Sonar and do what I wish in terms of cutting and pasting. My question  remains ... "Isn't it a no-brainer to incorporate cut, copy and paste features into Sonar and avoid the hassle of going to another piece of software to do it?"!
