Hi, I'm new to the "wonderful" world of KONTAKT (but not NI) and have a couple questions I could not find answers to in the manual.

1. My audio interface has 2 stereo outputs but Kontakt 5 only sees one. How can I send it to the 2nd output or is this impossible?

2. When loading several instruments into the rack, how do I switch back and forth between them? So far I can only get the 1st one to work.

Thanks!

BTW, The full version is a bit steep @ $399 but I do qualify for a crossgrade @ $249.

On the second question, it will depend on what you have already. I don't think its possible to crossgrade from other NI products but there is (was?) a list of qualifying products on NI's website. Typically these are third party Kontakt player libraries (ones you registered in NI service centre.)

I assume you are talking about the stand alone version of Kontakt, since as a plugin it uses your DAW for output channels.

In the stand alone version if you open the Kontakt output panel and click on the output fader, the dialog for routing output should come up.  Selecting the output should show all available output channels.  If it doesn't show all channels you'd need to adjust something with your audio driver settings.  Here's what mine looks like with my Focusrite Saffire which has 10 output channels.

As for switching back and forth, for each instrument loaded into Kontakt you can set what MIDI channel it receives and where it's output is sent to (Kontakt has it's own mixer)  The way you "switch" between instruments is by using different MIDI channels to direct the MIDI notes to the correct instrument.  Might want to check NI and YouTube for videos on how this works in Kontakt, once you see how it works you shouldn't have much trouble.

OK I see it now. Thanks! Took me a while due to the micro tiny fonts everywhere. The GUI needs some major updating to be useable. It  gives me eye strain... on a 24" monitor @1920x1080. And why they got rid of the colored keys and replaced them with tiny 1 pixel lines above the keys makes no sense either. (gripey today aren't I?!)

I keep hoping that as the NI devs age themselves, they'll eventually develop greater sympathy for old eyes. Making the UI continuously resizeable was a welcome improvement, but it only makes it possible to show more tiny things; the tiny things themselves don't resize.

I, too, am using two 24" displays @ 1920x1080. Going larger isn't practical (would impinge on the speakers' line-of-sight) and probably wouldn't help with Kontakt anyway because bigger monitors mean higher resolution, and modern flat-screen monitors need to run at their native resolution. My workaround: bifocals.

The older gents are all in upper management now. Like any company I'm sure they keep hiring younger guys who don't have a clue.
