Cakewalk will not tie its software to Tascam only - that would be silly

Yes, but I'd still be annoyed if future SONAR versions added a lot of features that were exclusive to a new range of Tascam interfaces/controllers.

Well, I do hope we can add some features that take advantage of being able to partner with TASCAM. But I tend to think they would just make the workflow that much better, not do something like tie Sonar to the interface as a primitive form of copy protection.

With every Anderton post comes a nice dose of reassurance. Glad it's you representing The Man, Craig!

Thanks, but really, I don't speak for Cakewalk...I just know what's going on there to a greater degree than before, and am happy to chime in. I figure if I can save the Bakers time in responding, that's more time for them to work on their software.

If "the man" refers to Gibson, keep in mind that we acquired the company because we really appreciate what Cakewalk is doing (remember, Henry J is a hardcore Sonar user) and felt that by partnering with them, they could take things even further. We have not been disappointed, to say the least.

By "The Man" I mean Gibson, who dictates the nature and extent of the "synergy" between your subsidiary brands!

All great to hear, but shouldn't you be somewhere else right now.... ?  Berklee says GMT - 4 = 4pm EST. My clock says GMT 8:05 !

Craig,

Please get Tascam to revive driver development for the FW-1884 (and it's ilk).

Heck, get them to start building the thing again (especially the expander).

We've started shipping TASCAM products with SONAR X3 LE. More to come.

So if someone buy Sonar X3 LE they get Tascam hardware?

;)

Go back and review all the panicked threads after Roland acquired a majority share of Cakewalk. Do a mental search-and-replace, substituting "TASCAM" for "Roland".

That relationship lived up to neither the optimistic nor pessimistic forecasts. All we got out of that deal was R-Mix, which nobody ever figured out and only lasted through one SONAR version.

Also, consider that before SONAR could be adapted to any TASCAM-specific features, TASCAM products would have to first have some unique proprietary features.

Thanks Andrew and Craig for the update. That will be good news for future Tascam customers.

And do not underestimate the value of including the LE version of software with any hardware.
Because my Tascam us1641 , now in mothballs, came with Cubase 5LE, I became a Cubase user, and a potential upgrader. I still find it usefull for opening MIDI files that Sonar refuses to show the PG change info for. I recorded 2 songs with it but being LE version it is no competition for my Sonar Producer and Studio versions. I think the full version would be just fine for me,, but-- I just plain hate Stienbergs registration process and web site.

And all you folks that bad mouth Tascam products, I wonder if you have actually owned them. I have owned lots of Tascam gear and for the price point it has been top notch gear. I think that must have been Tascam's earliest mission -To make recording affordable. Unlike the "B" stuff that breaks well before it's time , Tascam gear seems to go forever.
But we do know they have had driver issues but this is a software, not a hardware problem. They just plain hired the wrong people to write the code. But that said, might be that there's no problem if you use a Mac.

They have improved the drivers for my interface and it was working smoothly, but I do notice a improvement with running Sonar and the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. The hardware is about the same, it's just the drivers. If Tascam can deal with the driver issue they will sell like crazy.
