Has anyone used or had any sort of experience with the Tannoy Reveal series?

I don't know about the current Tannoy Reveals, but I have a pair of the original 5A's stored the attic. I wouldn't recommend them at any rate. Bass noticeably rolls off below around 300Hz, and there's a a big mid hump, like an NS10 only around half an octave lower. Not much treble either. All in all, not very revealing (sorry). I found it very difficult to get a translatable mix on them.

They'd be OK if your were dealing with spoken word and weren't too concerned about the finer details, perhaps.

The newer versions may be better or may not - but I'd have a long, hard look at their frequency plots before I'd consider them.

Hang on...I've just looked at Tannoy's web site. They don't even supply a frequency plot for any of the Reveals (they did for the earlier models). Which speaks volumes in my opinion.

I went to the GS thread that was mentioned and I took the review with a grain of salt. I agree that the high end of the D5's are a little sibilant sounding at first, but after burning them in, I don't hear it. What I like is the stereo imaging and clarity.......some people stated that the D5's are bass shy......I don't agree......but I've mixed on the same NS10's for 25 years.....I don't like monitors with exaggerated bass and I think the D5's are pretty good in that respect. The JBL's I have have more bass by comparison. Just my 2 cents

I thought the most interesting thing about that review was that the D5s were competitive with Focals and Adams that cost twice as much ... in the reviewer's opinion, of course.  If I were in the market for monitors of this ilk, I'd certainly want to try the Equators.  The money-back offer doesn't hurt, either.

Well, after much deliberation and second guessing.....I went with the Yamaha HS80Ms....I ordered them today, so they won't be here til probably the middle of next week.

But, they were a package deal with stands and isolation pads.  Plus a Black Friday sale...so along with some TRS  to XLR cables, it all came to under $600

As long as they get to me in good shape, and they're functioning properly....I'm gonna be a happy camper!

(Also just got a Roland OctaCapture to try and "smallify" my setup (I was using a still working Delta 1010 and Mackie mixer...and now I'll be able to remove an amplifier, as well)

I'll give my opinion of the monitors when I get them.

Thanks to all those who responded!

I think you'll be very happy with them, Ozz. Just keep 'em away from the walls if you can.
