I'm wondering how important Win8 and touch support is playing a part...to include the Tascam touch surface, that should be coming out soon..?  Tascam could use something like that to boost their image out of the portastudio/8 tk R2R age.  It'd be cool if I could trade in my Tascam DAT...and get more than 25 bucks.

...a revamp or revision of the old ones....

Suggestions:

e) Total revamp of audiosnap.

f) Total revamp of drum maps.

g) Total revamp of step sequencer.

o) A coffee cup.

These I support!!

Suggestion: With the Step Seq have the ability to use drum maps/import drum maps.

Or maybe these new ground breaking innovations that Noel speaks of will make all this obsolete?

That works really well actually and is one of the melodyne workflows. As long as you sing reasonably in pitch and articulate the notes dragging the audio to a MIDI track will transcribe it to MIDI. You can actually sing in entire melodies or multiple parts and then assign to softsynths, creating a full arrangement witt only the voice. I'ver been meaning to do a demo project that illustrates just this - ARA integtration is a really powerful tool for vocalists.

This I can verify consequently it is time for a shameless plug this was created entirely by Wookiee singing and then dragging to selected soft synth voices Midi track.  There is a reason for no actual vocal as it is well known in the basement area of this esteemed forum that actual Wookiee singing will kill at a parsec.  The vocal had be to captured in an alternate space time location.

OK so then, it's Monday morning and I'm waiting in the dentist to have all my teeth extracted.... So my mind is wondering...  this is what I would like in X4. I'm not really interested in many brand new features, just a revamp or revision of the old ones....

Suggestions:

a) Move menu items around so they are more logical. Get rid of duplication and restructure. For instance.... Insert Meter/Key Change, Insert Tempo Change, Insert Series of Tempos, Insert Time measures, Insert Marker should be under the insert menu.

b) Revamp the menus, make them more a touch friendly and visual experience like a tablet app. At the same time we need options so that those who don't need to use touch don't have their screen real estate (in essence same thing but smaller).

c) More audio routing options to be on par with Ableton.

d) Piano Roll View is pretty good but I would like to see the UI around the notes could be revamped. Think Melodyne.

e) Total revamp of audiosnap.

f) Total revamp of drum maps.

g) Total revamp of step sequencer.

h) Smoother navigation in the track view. A few extra features to make life easier when manipulating and bouncing down clips.

i) Better support for dual monitors. Multidock on each monitor, when I have multiple projects open I only want to be able to see windows from the current project.

j) More flyouts that can be moved around like the Quadcurve, although we need to be able to move this around the screen so we can get behind it. A UX experience much like the quadcurve or melodyne wherever there is an opportunity.

k) Smoother operation when manipulating the UI during playback.

l) More error trapping and logging when things go wrong so issues can be diagnosed better. Therefore more information supplied when Sonar crashes.

m) A log file appended everytime a scan or reset of plugins occurs which display any errors during the plugin scan.

n) Of course anything to improve the performance of the engine (happens with every release I'm sure).

o) A coffee cup.

p) A chopstick with the option to upgrade to two chopsticks with the pro version.

q) Hover car.

It's a big ask.
Sonar does a great job right now but this is what I would personally like to see....
Personal fantasy /END.

Hover car is confirmed for sure.

I know one probably can't answer this question, but since Gibson has acquired Cakewalk by this winter, does this mean instead of calling it X4, you are going to go forward and call it Tascam Professional Software??
Curious Minds want to know:)

Lets just say that X4 is shaping up to be a very exciting release. I'm excited that we're tackling some really innovative features that break new ground this time, in addition to refining major features and workflows.

Future versions will remain SONAR. The brand is not going anywhere. The whole relationship with Gibson has been amazing so far. As to how we incorporate technology with TASCAM, that is underway. They are great to work with and I am sure some amazing things will come from it.

Yes, we're definitely sticking with Sonar. The talk about a TASCAM Professional Software entity is about an additional means of distribution, not the product or its definition.

Gibson is thrilled with what's happening with Cakewalk, and I'm sure there will future collaborations with other Gibson Brands in the future, of course including TASCAM.

Thanks...that's good to know.....:) I just got the impression from reading the press release that going forward Cakewalk software was going to become Tascam professional software...
