  • Lost Audio detail After Power Cut!!!!

We have a lot of power cuts in this part of Spain and have lost the detail of all the audio tracks that we had open at the time.  The first time this happened, we scrapped the song and started again, but even at 4am, it happened again!!!  Through trial and error we discovered that we can see the information again if we use normalize but it´s not a tool that we like to use much.

Do you know a better way to restore the information.  We can still hear it but the audio just appears as a straight line and it never sounds the same after normalizing.

Any suggestions welcome and thanks for your time once again.  You guys are great

If you can hear the audio tracks but the images of the waveforms do not appear in the tracks, delete the contents of the picture cache. The waveforms will be redrawn when the project is opened again. I would also recommend purchasing a UPS (i.e. a battery backup for the PC). to prevent damage to the PC and loss of data.

Can I ask you something else?  Every time I finish a song I clear the audio and picture cache before I start a new one, BUT with every song more space is taken up on my hard drive even though I believed nothing is stored.  Even the song in CWP form is stored on a separate back-up drive.  My question is are there any more places on my PC or in Sonar that I should be clearing to prevent this happening?

So much still to learn but I´m convinced you will know the answer. Thank you.

The better way to backup a project is to use per-project audio folders. This stores all the audio for a project in a directory directly underneath the directory containing the project's cwp file(s). When a project is completed, perform the "Save As" function from the main menu to a new location. This will create a copy of the project with the audio actually used in the project. This new project directory can be backed up and the working project deleted. This will completely remove the project from your hard drive. The picture cache can be deleted at anytime as the data is redrawn on demand.

I will try this and let you know how I get on. Not something I have done before but makes sense. Thanks

If you can locate the file AUD.INI on your system, open it and alter the value of PicCacheMB to something higher, e.g. 500.

Lady! It's preferred not to change the thread title in the middle of the thread. That makes the thread hard to follow if you start adding questions that have nothing to do with the title we can see on the forums front page. Now the thread title says "Lost audio details..." but that subject is no longer discussed. It's better to start a new thread for a new question.
It's not a big thing, though :o)

If you live in a place where the power cuts out, I would think about using a laptop. Laptops can keep going and prevent any data loss.
also it is not anything to worry about hard drive space in this day and age.
I just transferred 24 songs I'm working on to my back up drive and it was only 11 Gigs. These are full songs with over 14 tracks of audio each. 44.1 / 32 bit.  Midi data uses very very little space. Kilobytes. The picture catch uses nothing worth worrying about.

Thanks for all the info and sorry for putting a 2nd subject in here.

Scook :  Thanks, I checked how I was saving and it is exactly as you say, so I´m doing it right.
