Does anyone know if such a keyboard can be set up as a MIDI controller? My Oxygen 49 just went belly up. I want to use the Alesis to play virtual instruments rather than the internal patches but I haven't had a response from support and the manual doesn't say either way.

Thanks - rev

My Google said Alesis 1622 is an audio mixer. It has no MIDI features whatsoever.
INTRODUCTION
The Alesis 1622 Monolithic/Integrated Surface™ Audio Console is a 16 channel, two buss
audio mixing console which features the new integrated Monolithic Surface™ technology. This
technology makes available a number of features at low cost which previously could only be
found in much more expensive consoles .The 1622 MIXER provides excellent sonic qualities, with extremely low noise and crosstalk, flat wideband frequency response, and the superb sweet sound normally associated with consoles
costing many times more. Thus the 1622 MIXER can be used as an additional "Musical Tool" .
Because of the built-in flexibility of the 1622 MIXER, the unit is at home in any application, be it
recording, sound reinforcement, post-production, or as a dedicated keyboard mixer.

My mistake. I have the Alesis Quadrasynth Plus Piano. I also have a mixer that's called a 1622 I think it's an Allen and Heath, I got them mixed up because they're both in boxes and I didn't unpack to look. Apologies.

The Quadrasynth is a full keyboard (or close) with 6 internal banks of 100 sounds each, full MIDI capability, semi weighted keys, etc. Mine is nearly new but the model has been obsolete for years.

If it has MIDI ports, yes you can.

Great. Yes, it does have MIDI ports and full flexibility. You can any transmit on a specific channel or Omni, etc but that's part of my problem, the settings. Any ideas about how to set it up?

Ideally, I'd like to master both modes, using it as a controller for virtual instruments and switching it to use the internal voices but I'd settle for the controller mode for now.

Found it! The TOC references page 22 but the instructions are on page 30 :)

Master Controller for Live Use
To drive MIDI controlled devices from the QuadraSynth Plus, patch the QuadraSynth Plus’s MIDI OUT to the MIDI device’s MIDI IN. If there is more than one MIDI device, patch the first device’s MIDI THRU to the second device’s MIDI IN, the second device’s MIDI THRU to the third device’s MIDI IN, etc.

When using the QuadraSynth Plus as a master keyboard to play other MIDI devices, be sure the Keyboard Mode is set to “NORMAL.” The Keyboard Mode parameter is found on Page 2 of Global mode (for more information, see Chapter 8).

Since the 'devices' are VIs not hardware, presumably I just make those connections on my audio interface? I have the MOTU Traveler which has MIDI IN, OUT and THRU.

No it's just you seemed to answer your own question once you put to task, sorry I wasn't implying you didn't try to figure it out first. Hey, you actually read the manual, That's what the forum is for, no question is a dumb question. Your keyboard will work fine.. as said as long as it has a midi port your good to go.
