  • [Resolved] Melodyne and Audio to Midi Conversion

I have two problems with Melodyne.  First, every time I open it (in Sonar X3 Producer), I get a window asking me to activate my 30 day trial.  I don't think that's right...

Otherwise, audio to midi conversion for me, doesn't work.  The output consists of one note continuously repeated.  Tried a couple of different wavs, mp3s and it's pretty much the same.  Tried drag and drop to midi track, tried converting from Melodyne editor, same result.  The original source file was only dulcimer, so it wasn't a complicated conversion.  Am I missing something here or do I have a problem.  Well, relatively....;-)

Thanks....Steve

Try launching Sonar as Administrator if you aren't. This used to be necessary to register one of the old synths. I don't know if it's necessary to get your install of Melodyne correct. I always launch as admin, so i wouldn't experience the problem if it was so related.

It works for me to drag a Melodyne converted audio track to a midi track. The conversion works correctly.

I'm on Win7 64bit and am part of the 'administrator' group.  Of course there is a difference between being an administrator in Win7 and being the administrator.  So I did try 'run as administrator'.  No difference in either problem.  I'd like to find out what's wrong rather than have to uninstall and reinstall X3.

Thanks...Steve

That's what I've been working on this afternoon. I'm getting  the same thing. There should be a spot to uncheck to stop the pop up.

I recorded a one bar phrase. Then to region FX. It converted the file. Now I'm opening Rapture. Press Ctrl and left click on the file and copy to Rapture.
Hmmm. It worked that time. Earlier it was just a single note straight across. I'm not sure why it worked that time

I can't do chords or more than one note at a time. When I let one sound ring into another I get the single read. So that's what the problem was. This is really nice. If you mute the audio then cycle thru all the sounds in whichever soft synth you use. I like this!

Wow this is something! I went into appreciator and created a bunch of patterns then cycle thru a couple of soft synths. I also replayed the audio line in harmony now I have a duet. Very cool!

This is a limitation of Melodyne Essential, the version that ships with SONAR. See http://www.cakewalk.com/D...eq=NewFeatures.10.html

The Help > About on the Melodyne menu should show a serial number if the application has been registered. A registered version does not display the trial popup message.

Thanks scook! SOLVED!  This opens some interesting possibilities. I just recorded a line then found/converted it into a bass line. I checked the price on editor version and almost fell out of my chair

Did you go and register melodyne it is a separate registration than Sonar.

It is also called single track, in other words it only works with a single melody or bass line. Any harmonics or overtones will throw it off. You can upgrade $$$ if you want the full version that can handle ( I wonder) full chords. There is a limitation to what software can do.
Audio to midi conversion works with single drum parts and very simple sounds like a flute. A dulcimer would blow it's mind.
