Okay, got everything solved!
First and Primary was that I hadn't entered my registration key.  That revealed a lot of extra options.  Melodyne was stuck in the percussive algorithm, which is why I was getting only one note.  Of course, switching to melodic at least give me some different notes, but really bad.  I'm assuming, since there is a melody line and a bass line, that I need to use polyphonic, which is currently grayed out.  This may be why we're getting melodyne for free!

It is also called single track, in other words works with a single melody or bass line. Any harmonics or overtones will throw it off.
Audio to midi conversion works with drums and very simple parts, like a flute. A dulcimer would blow it's mind. Any software, not just Melodyne.

The product is identified as Melodyne Singletrack to distinguish it from Melodyne Studio. It works on a single audio track at a time. Melodyne Singletrack has three levels, Essential, Assistant and Editor. It is the same executable, the license key enables the features associated with the level. SONAR ships with the Essential version. The Editor version is capable of working with polyphonic audio as explained in the link I proved above.

The third algorithm is included in Melodyne Editor.

Glad you got Melodyne Essential registered.

Cactus,
Thanks for all the help.  At least things are now working the way they're supposed to.  I wonder how the polyphonic algorithm would handle a melody with a bassline.  If it could, it might be worth the upgrade.  However, since I've had some time playing with intelliscore, you're correct, there's a limit to what software can do.

Thanks...Steve

The polyphonic algorithm is very good. Here is a Cakewalk blog entry about it http://blog.cakewalk.com/subtract-or-isolate-instruments-from-an-audio-file. There are quite a few videos on the Celemony site which may be of interest.
