Make the jump to 64 bit if you haven't already!!

Hey Guys:
I've had X2 for a quite a while, but had always only used the 32 bit version since it did everything I wanted. Tonight I started a project on 64 bit to see if there really was a difference and I was STUNNED!!!! I dropped my ASIO interface to 128 and was able to run 10 VSTi's with out the first pop, click or dropout. I guess I could have run more, but I didn't try. Everybody on this forum kept saying that 64 bit opened up more of the computer's power and now I am totally convinced. So if there is anyone out there still using 32 bit let me join the others and encourage you to take the leap into the 21st century!! You be delighted!!!

Hey! I have wondered myself, I thought there were problems with
64 bit,
problem might be that I have a few hundred Plugins and
Kontakt 5.3
what exactly does it entail step by step to change over and is there a trade off?

The first step is install the 64bit version of SONAR. Both the 32bit and 64bit will run on the same machine. Then install the 64bit versions of third party plug-ins where possible. The integrate the 32bit plug-ins as needed. The biggest problem with the transition are old 32bit plug-ins. Even then, the 32bit host is still available.

So do I have to re install everything from scratch?

Well you may have to install 64 bit third party plugins.
There is not much to if you are on Win 8 or 7 64 bit. Drivers will already be 64 bit.

It depends. Most installers allow installation of either 32bit, 64bit or both versions of the software. Some have separate installers for each version. Of course, this assumes the PC is already running a 64bit OS.

Thanks,
do you know of instances where it is advantageous to switch from the
64 bit
to the
32bit,
I have accumulated so many
3rd party plugins,
what about
WAVES
, are they OK in 64 bit?

I use a lot of Waves plugins, the 64-bit VST3 versions, and they work just fine.

The biggest advantage for 64 bit DAW is you can have access to more than 4 Gig of RAM. Make sure you have plenty of RAM (at least 8 Gig). Especially if you use Kontakt with lots of samples.

mysticgroove: Your specification does not include the complete info on your OS. If you are running Win7 32 then yes a complete re-install of everything will be required after upgrading your OS to 64 bit.
Otherwise the above comments are all correct
