Happy Thanksgiving, Freddy.  I hear the Gunn influence but it's still got it's own sound.  You have some pretty good gitlicks going.  I'm glad you are back as I am trying to do but time seems to consume me right now. I've promised I'll cut one live band involvement after the 1st year.  One is enough at this age.  I really like this tune, Freddy.

Cool vibe you got going on here. Thrashing out the blues in a big way!

Hey Kevin.  Thanks for listening and thanks for the kind comments.  I appreciate it!

Hi Daryl.  I do kinda have a penchant for mixing up genre don't I?  I think that Henry Mancini's "Peter Gunn" detective TV show music had a bit of influence --- maybe.  I appreciate the comments and thanks for listening.

Hi James.  Thanks for the kind words.  I actually went to the MySpace website and it is still there.  So is my page with a couple of the old songs.  Can you imagine that?

Warren -- Thank you my friend.  Congratulations on your weight loss -- it's a hard thing to do!!  I know from personal experience.  I hope you get to participate more on the forum and post some of those great songs that you, Mark, your sister, and others do!!!  Thanks again.

Hey Scotty.  I was going for that cool blues/jazz/rockabilly/calypso/etc. sound (my penchant for genre mixing - lol).I appreciate the kind words -- Thanks!!

Fun for sure!

Lyrics are a plus. I can relate. Background vocals are pretty fun.

Mix-wise, I think your hi-hat in particular is flanging pretty hard - is this a mix choice? Or something inflicted upon clean hi hats upon uploading to Soundclick? I think they are up in volume, and that's making it a little hard to let the vocal come out. Maybe the vocal could be louder, too.

Guitar work is very tasteful and super solid, nice chops!

cheers,
-Tom

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately, I am one of those "types" that don't have the talent to wrestle with drum software and make them sound like drums.  Therefore, I rely on WAV loops (supposedly of live kits).  One of the suggestions that I received when I first posted this (way back when) was that the cymbals were way to hot.  I cut back on the volume and EQ'ed them down in the 10 and 15 KHz range.  I don't know if this created the problem that you are hearing or not.  Actually, I am not hearing what you are describing on my cheap audio, so I will probably go next door and listen on my neighbors computer.  Of course, I am open for any suggestions that you might have on how to address this problem.

Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.  I appreciate your insight.

Freddy, Freddy, Freddy - this is very cool. Your voice is so cool sounding on this. This tune has a great beat and you really play well on this. And the mix sounds good to me.

What a fun tune - I really love this.

What EQ did you use? If you cut a huge notch of a narrow band of freq's it might flange it up a little, but that would be with a pretty low quality eq plugin.

If you listen to your "un-uploaded" version, and your "soundclick" version, perhaps there is a difference on those hi-hats, which would point to the Soundclickery mangling your mp3 - I don' t know how or if Soundclick automatically reduces your mp3.

I feel we all work too hard on these songs to just have the SoundXXXX's of the world tweak our mixes for us!

niggles aside, very cool tune and vocals!

Hey Tom.  Normally for the drum loops I have to fiddle around with EQ,s in the 400 Hz and 12 kHz range.  If they sound too boxy then I might also fiddle with ~5 kHz.  This song was also done with some time ago with Sonar X1 and I think that I used Cakewalk's FX Compressor Gate.

As you suggest, I'll try listening to both.  Thanks again for your suggestions!!!

Very nice Surfboogie tune Freddy!! It was a very pleasant and fun listen on my H-phones.

A possible minor and personal suggestion (which would give your vocals a little more space & definition) is to slightly pan the guitar parts that follow your vocals throughout the song (the backing vocals also could be panned a bit)......it would give all the other instrumentation a little more space to breath in (this is of course subjective as your tune/mix translated very well/clean).

I truly enjoyed listening to this 3x!! Good stuff!! :)
