Hi Folks,

This is a song I wrote a few months back, started with intro guitar riff and evolved into a song. Thought of sitting on the Mediterranean with the lads drinking and then spotting a gorgeous lady, whaddya think of that?!!
Anyway, I felt it needed some third party help and asked orchestral wizard Russ on here to play around with it. The link below is the full 5 minutes of it (I never have too many songs that length!). Have a listen and let us know what your thoughts, crits & suggestions may be.

Thanks, Cian

Only downside is the length. Luckily it clearly is done by musically talented guys so it is still a pleasure to listen to. Mix sounded balanced. I find it hard to concentrate for more than 3 mins.

Ok, I always enjoy your songs, very creative as usual!

this one is a little more "kitchen sink" and far as the many elements going on, and honestly I'd say it works better for me when it's a little sparser, like your section towards the end, it lets your really excellent vocal shine more. Just my personal opinion on that one . . .

I'd get a little reverb on that accordian patch to help its realism.

Very nicely balanced for all that is going on - this one must be a tough one to mix, well done. Everything comes across.

The only other nit is a lyric one. In the verse, it's the perspective of "He" but in the Chorus the perspective changes to "I" which I kind of get but it's an obstacle to my fully connecting with the song . . . and probably very few people will really care about that so no biggie!

High quality as usual!

cheers,
-Tom

Very entertaining as are all of your works. I think this is the first Latin song I've heard from you.

Thanks guys.

Kakku, it is long and for me initially it is long. But comes a point to, is it only long because this generation has a short attention span and used to mainstream radio or does the song got filler?

Emerald, detailed feedback thanks. In places it may be a bit busy, cutting more meat out of the instrumention might let that vox through. That accordian is actually real! how dare you :-D Russ is mixing this one so yea im sure it was a serious juggling act I terms of lyrical variation, thats a really good spot and you really listened to the song to pick that up.

String Jammer, cheers for posting by. This is my second one, started to like latin music a bit more since my trip to S.A.

Any other comments welcome before I wrap this one up?

Cheers,

Cian

You are probably right Whack. And because you have lyrics in the song you might actually have to make the song longer to get the message through or something like that. I have actually made a 5 minutes tune in the early days but I later shortened it to 4 minutes. Unfortunately I forgot where I had put it. And of course it was in my phone. But it was bit of a mess anyway that song I don't know what the song structure of that tune even is. Then again my knowledge of music theory is not so good. It was that Strings and beats tune which unfortunately didnot get many listens. Although it might have been a good thing because like I said it was a bit strange. But I still liked it (probably because I made it because and I kind of give mercy to my many song making mistakes). BTW a stupid question; is it so that a song must have singing or talking in it and a tune must not have singing or talking in it? :-) I have always envied those who actually have singing in their songs because the human voice is or can be the most beautiful instrument.

Crazy latin jam going on here! Loved the impro feel and that it wasnt super quantized and clean. The bass line is a little muddy and disturbing, specially when it goes around the darker thirds (octave up?). It can be my earphones, though. Maybe it sounds better i speakers. Great singing as always! It is lovely when you go for the higher, louder notes.

Guys, Thanks for listening and for your comments. Your words always help to improving the next mix/track or song.
I don't think the song is long at all.

Kakku, The impro intro is about a minute and after that is a couple of verses, pre-choruses, a bridge and a a few choruses, everything that you would hear in a song :) Could of gone for the full pop ending and key changed up a tone on the last chorus ;)

Tom, There is a touch of Verb on the accordion. I didn't want to swap it, tried to keep some of it's rawness. Mixing wise, wasn't too bad to do this time, I must be getting better at mixing 'songs'. There are a few things that I would mix differently, but I wanna move on to the next piece...

Lasse, The bass is a little distorted, It's a mix of a clean bass sound and an amped one. The intro, I just pictured some musicians mucking around in a courtyard, stomping their feet and moving around before bring the song together.

Agreed, Cian is brilliant with the high notes :) and always great fun working with. Also an extremely good song writer.
:)

Cool song and very clever production and orchestration. Mixwise there seems to be a disconnect between vocals and music somehow - maybe too much effect on the vocal? The overall effect is that the vocal sounds out of time but I don't think it is - does that make sense?

you're a very diverse musician and producer, Cian!  other than your voice I'm not sure I could listen to a bunch of songs and pick out yours just because I thought they sounded like your "style" because your "style" is so diverse!

this is very interesting - the horns and strings sound like they're in a completely different place from everything else.  would like to hear the bass a little more, the tambo seems a little too high in the mix, IMO.

as always, your vox are killer!  nice piano.

just my thoughts!

great work!
