Hey guys, I have Music Creator 6(didnt see a specific section for it, but its basically the same thing as Sonar just cut down). Works great for the stuff I'm doing. But anyways I'm trying to figure out how to record the sound straight from a VST. For instance I'm trying to get a midi recording from Drumburst. Unfortunately there is no drag and drop option with Drumburst. You load up the plugin hit play change the tempo and edit each drum to your liking and the plugin will set and play the loop over and over. How do I record it? Getting an audio recording from it would be great but midi would be better as I could use that clip with other plugins to try different sounds on the pattern created in drumburst. Surely there is a way to do this as I would think drumburst and similar plugins would be completely useless otherwise(plugins that have a built in pattern editor, which make coming up with beats way more precise and a billion times easier and way less time consuming) I also wondered the same thing with Z3ta 2. I do have a midi keyboard. But say I just want a single Squelch sound from Z3ta. A sound  I can get perfectly by just clicking the virtual keys on the Z3ta interface.... Dont have my keyboard with me or simply don't want to get it out and hook it up for literally one squelch sound... how do I record that without the controller?

Open the VST to track within MC6T (insert soft synth). Load or create MIDI with Piano Roll if no input from Drumburst. Arm the track to record. Press record on the Control Bar.

What I did was created a MIDI track in is set to "Omni" our was set to Drumburst. (Seems it would need to have Drumburst as the In but there is no option for that) Then opened the piano roll selected the midi track in the "pick tracks" section... I then armed the midi track and the synth track (Drumburst) Then clicked the main record button on the control bar... Drumburst started playing, but still nothing was recorded. What did I do wrong?

This one's not as straight forward as I thought it was :). I installed and have got something to work with ... but don't ask me to explain it just yet!
 
In MC6T > Insert Soft Synth DrumBurst
> Choose 'First Synth Audio Output' (from popup Options windows - Instead of Simple)
> Choose Step Sequencer from top right DrumBurst VST window (4th icon in)
> Put one note in the step sequencer to generate a clip in the track
> click on the right edge of the clip and extend it out for say a minute
> from the Tracks dropdown choose Bounce to Track
> it Mixes Down a new track -  Audio recorded from about 16 seconds onward
 
For some reason the first bit is not recorded to the bounced track! (It works from the start in Sonar).
 
PS: I think the 'difficulty' is because it's a multi-timbral VSTi. Most VSTs are directly, and more simply, recordable by the the method in my first post. TTS-1 is also multi-timbral. There might be other tutorials on that to point you in the right direction.

Have you done the tutorials and read the help files? I think using soft synths and Piano Roll are reasonably well explained there. After inserting the synth you can draw the MIDI notes in Piano Roll. If you record MIDI with your keyboard, that's were the result ends up, as lines in the Piano Roll.
